Adorable Moment When Captain Jack, The Cat, Was Rescued From A Sailboat After His Owner Died A Week Before
Captain Jack did not get the dramatic ending he deserved. While his owner was gone for good, this senior cat was still clinging to the only life he knew, left behind on a sailboat that was suddenly way too quiet. Officers Tabitha Queen and Shannon McGee suited up in Tyvek and worked to capture a terrified cat on the water, all while the boat’s contents screamed “this was home.”
And the wild part is, the story did not end with fear, it ended with a soft landing at the Treasure Coast Humane Society.
Cats have historically lived adventurous lives on boats

“It was a difficult task, but MCSO’s Animal Services Officers could not and would not give up trying to save a cat left behind on a sailboat after his owner passed away onboard,” the Sheriff’s Office shared.
When the body of the man was removed, detectives noticed the terrified cat and called in animal control authorities. Wearing Tyvek suits, Officers Tabitha Queen and Shannon McGee persevered and managed to capture Captain Jack.

When detectives spotted Captain Jack after the owner was removed, the rescue went from “sad discovery” to “we have to get him off that sailboat.”
They then delivered the priceless cargo to the Treasure Coast Humane Society. There, he would either go home with the man's family or begin a new life with a family he had just been adopted by after healing from the horrific loss.
“Good work by a dedicated Animal Services team. Thank you for not giving up!”

With Tabitha Queen and Shannon McGee in Tyvek suits, the capture plan had to match a frightened senior cat and a boat that was not exactly built for easy rescues.
It’s a heartbreaking parallel to Chris Arsenault’s blaze tragedy, where he died trying to save rescued cats.
The Treasure Coast Humane Society provided additional information about Captain Jack.
“His owner was all that Jack knew. With no other pets or family members to visit – it was just the two of them – always together,” they shared.

The captain cat was well taken care of
The man clearly liked the cat, according to the rescuers.
“Found inside the boat were various cat toys, a comfy cat bed and scratch posts. It was obvious that this sweet senior boy was very much loved.”

Once Captain Jack was secured, the Treasure Coast Humane Society took over, and his whole situation turned into a waiting game until he was medically and behaviorally ready.
The best part, the boat was packed with toys, a comfy bed, and scratch posts, so the team knew Jack was loved even if he was left behind.
They will now assist Jack in getting well and embarking on a new journey.

“Jack is now resting comfortably and receiving medical care and TLC from our staff. He is not yet available for adoption, but he will be once he is medically and behaviorally ready. We are hoping that within a few weeks, Jack will be on the road to finding a new home – somewhere quiet and filled with love, just like his old home was.”
