This Beagle Became A Surrogate Mother For Two Kittens, And It's The Sweetest Thing You'll See Today
Meet Daisy! She's a one-year-old beagle who lives with her human, Jane Whitton, and two kittens named Dexter and Fletcher in Staplehurst, Kent.
Daisy has an extra-special relationship with Dexter and Fletcher. You see, when Jane first brought the two kittens home, they were just 9 weeks old, and Daisy decided that she should be their new mother!
The loving dog was excited about the kittens right from the start. "When we brought them home, she was very bouncy and excited to meet her new friends," Jane said.
Jane says that having kittens around is an entirely new experience for Daisy. "She’s grown up with cats, but kittens were a whole new thing for her," she said.
Daisy fell in love with the kittens, and her bond with them was so strong that her body even began producing milk to feed them! How amazing is that?
Dexter and Fletcher adore Daisy and have no idea that she isn't their real mama. As far as they're concerned, Daisy is their mother, and they are her babies.
"Daisy is basically like their mom," Jane said. "They’re best friends; they spend all of their time together."
Daisy has never had a litter of her own, but that certainly hasn't stopped her from being an incredible mother. She is very protective of Dexter and Fletcher, always following them, bathing, feeding, and grooming them.
"If any other dog goes near the kittens, Daisy gets really protective and will get between them," Jane said. "She’s their protector and surrogate mom."

Believe it or not, there are lots of other stories about animals adopting other animals and raising them as their own. Our furry friends are truly amazing and should not be underestimated!
Take, for example, Mzee the turtle from Kenya. Mzee took care of a baby hippo who was rescued after a terrible tsunami.
The 130-year-old turtle took some time to warm up to the hippo. But once he did, he took his job as the hippo's caregiver very seriously.
Another adorable example is a cat from Colombia who adopted a wounded squirrel cub. The cat had been nursing her litter of kittens at the time, and when the squirrel was presented to her, she immediately began nursing it as one of her own.
Animals are truly incredible, and we humans could learn a lot from them. The world would certainly be a better place if we were as accepting and kind as our furry friends!
