Boy Leaves Maltreated Pooch Outside Shelter Along With Heartbreaking Letter
The staff of the animal shelter in the Mexican state of Michoacán found an interesting package when they arrived at their workplace. Inside a cardboard box, there was a pit bull puppy.
The story would resemble many others if it weren’t for a couple of details that showed this puppy is loved. Inside the box, there was a soft stuffed toy and a letter. The note explained the reasons why this puppy was abandoned at the shelter.
It was written by a young boy named Andrés, who said that he was doing this to hide the dog from his father, who had been abusing the poor animal.

The boy wrote in the letter: "My name is Andrés, and I am 12 years old. My mum and I decided to leave my dog in your hands, hiding him from my dad because he is thinking about selling him. But he mistreats and kicks him. One day, he kicked him so hard that he hurt his tail. I hope you can help and take care of him. I left him a stuffed animal so he won't forget me."
Refugio Xollin, a dog rescue group in Michoacán, is currently taking care of the dog, and he will be adopted as soon as he recovers.

The group posted pictures of the unfortunate little pit bull on Facebook, where his predicament caught the attention of animal lovers from all over the world.
One person stated: "What a shame for that little boy; I imagine how painful it must have been to make that decision. The puppy is beautiful!"
Another replied: "Poor boy; he must have broken his heart by leaving his friend."
A third commented: "I just hope that someone helps that boy and his mother get out of that situation, and that maybe he can get his puppy back. For that little boy to do what he did, he has a huge heart."

A new post from Refugio Xollin explained that they are swamped with requests to adopt the dog, reminding people that they have 120 other animals who are also available for adoption.
Approximately translated into English, the shelter staff said: "Once we identify his health status, we will start with the protocol for vaccines, deworming, and sterilization. If everyone opened their heart and their home like this little dog, they would have adopted all our dogs from the shelter."
Fortunately, the dog is quickly recovering, and it probably won't be long before he finds his new home.
