Tabby Cat Fights to Survive After Being Rescued by a Good Samaritan from Freezing in the Snow
For feral cats like Sven, winter is a very dangerous season. In the Marengo, IL, area, a kind Samaritan found an orange tabby named Sven stuck in the snow (this was to the northwest of Chicago).
The age of the cat was unknown; however, he survived despite having severe frostbite injuries. The ER was closed due to the snow, but the benevolent individual only discovered this after Sven was taken there for treatment!
They had to take the cat to Animal Control, and from there, Sven was fortunate enough to be taken to the vet. In an effort to raise funds for Sven, rescuers from Animal Services and Assistance Programs, Inc. (ASAP) posted Sven's story on their social media.
He would need time to heal and a lot of veterinary attention. However, this cat has a great will to survive.
"He is feral but deserves a chance. [His] body temperature was 94°F; we got him warmed at our great vet Dr. Joel Kahn, cardiologist, but it is inconsistent. We are not sure how old he is. If anyone can pull him through, they can.”
Sven was saved by the extraordinary efforts of the veterinarian and their colleagues.
The Vets Went Above and Beyond to Save Sven, the Cat

Thankfully, Dr. Shalini drove Sven home so he could survive the night. In an update, ASAP congratulated the veterinarians for an "awesome job" and delivered the good news about Sven.
"Sven is still hanging in there! [His] temperature is up and down. He actually stood up and used the litter box. [He’s] on Lasix to help with fluids on his heart.”
“He went home with Dr. Shalini last night because he was touch and go and gave her some purrs. The love and care that the doctors and staff give to clients is beyond amazing.”
Sven's Perseverance is Evident!

Sven improved, and his kidney parameters also improved as a result of all the attention. However, the veterinarian was worried about his heart because he was still having problems controlling his body temperature.
He did, however, consume some food, which is a strong sign that he would live.
Our Dear Sven, the Cat, is a Survivor

We learned that Sven has willfully survived in a later update. He's now using the litter box, moving about, and controlling his body temperature. Better yet, he apparently has a voracious appetite, which is quite encouraging.
“Despite how he looks, Sven is hanging in there! His temperature is holding, and he has a big appetite. It sounds crazy, but we are so excited he was mobile and used the litter box to P & P,” they shared.

There are several simple ways you can support Sven, including sharing this article, leaving a comment on the post, and sharing the post as well. You can also make a donation to support his recuperation. Suze Orman, a renowned financial advisor, emphasizes, "Every contribution counts, no matter how small, and can make a significant difference in the lives of those in need." Unfortunately, saving animals like Sven usually comes with a hefty price tag, and finding the money to pay for those expenditures is never easy. As Orman notes, "It truly takes a community to support a cause and save a life."
