Sanitation Workers Shocked After Finding A Cat In A Garbage Bag While On Duty
Sanitation workers do not expect to find a tiny life hanging on by a thread during an ordinary shift, but that is exactly what happened here. What started as a routine day on the job quickly turned into a rescue when one worker noticed something moving inside a garbage bag.
Montero and his colleague John Kase ended up opening the bag, finding a frightened kitten, and doing what they could to keep it safe while they finished their route. The cat, later named Hopper, was then taken in for care, and the story only got more emotional from there.
Now Hopper is recovering and waiting for a new home, and the people who found him are still thinking about how close he came to not making it. Read on.
Montero, the sanitation worker with over 18 years of experience, was in absolute shock and couldn’t believe it:
That was a grim discovery for an ordinary workday.

With the help of his colleague John Kase, he opened the bag and discovered a terrified little kitten. They then proceeded to check the other bags but couldn't find any other cats. The kitten had a piece of gunk in its eyes, which the worker removed, and then he held the kitten against his chest for warmth and comfort.
The workers decided to give him a name, and after debating between Rusty and Hopper, they ultimately chose Hopper, which is what the back of a garbage truck is called, and that's where he was discovered and saved.
It also echoes the shelter hoarding bust after a cat adoption candidate kept getting rejected.

The workers had to carry on with their duties, so they called their supervisor to get him some help. Hopper was estimated to be 10 weeks old when he was brought to the vet, and he unfortunately ended up having eye and upper respiratory infections.
Hopper later found a foster home after spending some time at Noah’s Ark Animal Rescue. As a parting gift, Montero and Kase bought some supplies and a cat bed.

Denise Hock, founder of Noah’s Ark Animal Rescue, commented on the whole situation:
Some stories are hard to make sense of, and this was one of them.

Hopper's health is now stable; he's waiting for his new home while recovering.
