Rescued Stray Kitten Fell Asleep In Cyclist's Backpack As Soon As He Realized He Was Safe
A stray kitten on the side of the road can turn an ordinary bike ride into a life-changing stop. That is exactly what happened when Matea spotted a tiny fluff ball near a busy intersection and realized he was all alone.
She pulled over, scooped him up, and quickly saw that the little kitten was more relieved than scared. After a brief fuss, he settled into her backpack and drifted off to sleep, as if he knew help had finally arrived.
From that moment on, the ride home became the start of a new life for the kitten now known as Gizmo.
Check out this poor fellow as Matea first held him and placed him in her backpack.
People were just walking by and not even stopping, which made me realize he probably wouldn’t get the help he needed. I've always had a soft spot for animals in need, and seeing him so tiny, wandering around with no one caring, I knew I had to do something. - Matea

That tiny backpack nap says everything about how safe he felt.
Finally asleep when he knew he was safe.
At first, he was a bit fussy when I put him in the backpack. Soon enough, he got cozy on the dress I had in there and fell asleep on it… I think he realized he had a soft and secure place to sleep. - Matea

This fur baby is now named Gizmo.
Matea, along with her boyfriend, took the kitten to a vet. He was examined, treated for fleas, dewormed, and given fluids.

Gizmo feels better now, and his adorable personality shines through.
He is such an Energizer bunny—hopping around, nipping at your ankles, and playing with the many toys he’s got. Occasionally, he will jump on my back, as if he remembers that backpack ride on the day I found him! - Matea

For Matea, she could no longer picture her life without her little furball, whom she spotted on the street that one fateful day. She was so glad that she took the time to stop and check on the tiny furball who brought so much sunshine to her gloomy days.
Gizmo is one clingy boy to his mom.
He loves snuggling up to me when I wake up in the morning and when I get back from work. We start every morning with him taking a nap in my lap for half an hour while I drink my morning coffee.
I just want my story to maybe encourage someone else to keep an eye out for the most vulnerable animals and help in any way they can. - Matea

Gizmo is enjoying his comfy bed.

Just being cute.

Stuck under the blankets.

One lazy Sunday.

It's both playtime and naptime.

Gizmo just loves to sleep.

Gizmo clearly decided Matea was his person the second she stopped for him.
Wait, this young kitten cried for help after its head got stuck in a truck frame. See the rescue.
