Dog Has Been Waiting For His Forever Home For Over A Year Now, But No One Wants To Adopt Him Because Of His Conditions
Adopting a pet comes with the huge responsibility of ensuring that they will be taken care of dutifully—all strings attached. If you adopt an animal knowing that certain conditions need to be met, it is only fair to say that you should be able to accommodate their needs in your everyday life.
When you adopt a pet, they automatically become a significant part of your life, and they don't deserve any kind of neglect. However, it is saddening to realize that some owners willfully give up their pets once they reach old age or acquire certain diseases.
This leads to the tragic situation where pets, particularly dogs, spend the rest of their lives in shelters—if no one wants to give them a proper home, that is. One unfortunate tendency among people looking to adopt a dog from shelters is that they often overlook the dogs that appear aged and battered.
Looks shouldn't be everything, especially when it comes to animals. However, it's understandable that most people would choose healthier, younger, and more energetic dogs over those that look old, as they want to have a longer bond with them, too.
That does not mean that older and battered-looking dogs don't deserve a kind and loving home, even with the conditions they require. One significant benefit of adopting an older dog is that they often possess more wisdom, may already be trained, and can form even deeper connections with you.
Meet Jay. He's a nine-year-old dog in need of a loving home.
Jay is a perfect example of a dog who deserves a kind and loving home, but he comes with certain conditions that a potential owner might need to accommodate. He was taken in by the RSPCA in early 2021 because his previous family could no longer meet his needs.
Regardless of his appearance, the staff at the shelter quickly fell in love with his goofy personality, which always brings laughter. However, one major problem is that the shelter has been struggling to find Jay a forever home, mainly due to his looks.

Jay has severe allergies, which have left him almost completely bald. It's a common issue for his breed.
He may not look like the other fluffier and perkier dogs that are happily waiting for their new owners at the shelter, but Jay has just as much love and charisma to offer. The staff at the shelter hope that someone will eventually take him in and love him for who he is.
“Jay is such a little character, and while he may be small, he certainly makes up for that in personality,” said Carmen Cole (RSPCA) in a press release. “We really hope that there’ll be someone out there who can look past his lack of hair and see that he has a whole lot of love to give.”

Jay has now been waiting for over 400 days in the shelter. His family at the shelter, however, remains optimistic that someone out there will eventually give Jay a caring home.
Due to his health issues and other conditions, Jay requires specific requests and accommodations for his future home. He needs a family that can ensure his special diet is maintained and that his medication is meticulously followed every day.
Jay also prefers a home without children and no other pets, so that his owners can provide him with their full support and attention. He would also love a fenced yard if his owners are kind enough, as well as hard floors, since dust mites in carpets tend to trigger his allergies.

“We know it is going to be a struggle to find a home that will meet all of Jay’s needs, and we understand that the cost of his ongoing care may deter people,” Cole said.
“But we won’t give up on Jay; he is a spicy character, a cheeky chappie with heaps of charm, and he has expensive tastes—being this cute doesn’t come cheap! It takes a lot of work to look as good as he does—he deserves the very best.”

“He is an absolute sweetheart and will make such a wonderful pet or companion for the right person,” Cole said.
Hopefully, soon enough, Jay's future owner will show up and give him the care and love that he truly deserves. The perfect home for him exists—we just need a little more time!
