This Dog Is A Manager Of The Bookstore That’s Named After Her
Our pets are there to comfort us, make us laugh, and lift our spirits when we are down. But most importantly, they inspire us.
They make us better people and encourage us to follow our dreams, knowing that we always have someone to watch our backs, just like Ruby from our story did.
When Stacy Gould and her family first discussed the possibility of starting a bookshop, they considered the logistics thoroughly. Gould knew she would be the one traveling to the shop every day because the kids and her husband were both gone all day at school and work.
But she would have company—the family dog, Ruby. Ruby is not only extremely important to her family, but she is also the nicest, sweetest dog who adores everyone she meets. Therefore, they decided a bookshop where people could come in and say hello every day would be ideal for her.
In many respects, the bookstore would be hers, and that's how Ruby's Books got its name. They couldn't have picked a nicer one.
“Ruby would have to come with me every day to the store, so we thought, ‘Why don't we name the store after Ruby?’” Gould says.
And that's the beginning of a wonderful story. Take a look:
Ruby is now Ruby's Books' co-owner, manager, and official greeter, and she takes her work extremely seriously. Ruby and her bookstore have only been open for about a year and a half, but they have already established themselves as an important part of the community.
"The customers love Ruby, and she has become quite the staple here on Sutter Street," Gould said. "We often joke that people come for the books but stay for the dog!"
Meet Ruby

Ruby's family believes that having a healthy work-life balance is crucial; therefore, she doesn't go to the store every day. She works from Monday to Friday and spends her weekends with her family at home.
On the other hand, she enjoys every minute she spends in the store and has a slew of responsibilities that she proudly fulfills.

“Her duties include greeting each customer at the door, rolling over for endless belly rubs, sniffing out treats within the pockets of our customers, mopping the floor with her very fluffy tail, and reading (well, she pretends to) alongside the kiddos in our children's section,” Gould said.

She works from Monday to Friday because weekends are reserved for her family

Ruby adores owning her own bookstore, and her family loves the fact that they now have a chance to share Ruby's joy with the rest of the community. We can only imagine how thrilled the customers are when they are greeted by such an adorable and fluffy member of the staff.
