Pepe actually used to be one of the happiest dogs, living in comfort and safety in his home, and being given decent food whenever he needed it. However, things took a heartbreaking turn when his owners decided to abandon and dump him on the streets because they were tired of having him around.
For many weeks after he was dumped, Pepe seemed confused and in denial about his abandonment, always returning to the spot where his owners left him, hoping for their return.
Pepe did not understand what had happened at first, and he kept waiting in the same place where he was left behind.

Rescuers were intent on saving Pepe, but he was still in denial. Eventually, he began to realize that he had been wrongfully abandoned and started to avoid humans out of disgust and heartbreak.
Pepe's demeanor became much more skittish, so rescuers were careful when approaching him, fearing he might run into the busy road if he panicked at the sight of them. They had to devise a trap to capture the dog safely.
However, as Pepe began to make his way toward the trap, some police officers approached the scene. The sirens caused Pepe to panic and retreat, so the officers had to drive away—thankfully, they understood the situation.
When his rescuers began to show affection toward him, his fears seemed to evaporate, and he appeared comfortable snuggling with the humans around him. It's truly a shame that there are still many dogs out there like Pepe who are struggling with the trauma of abandonment, even though they were the most loving and caring companions to their previous owners.
