This Sweet, Big Dog Saved A Tiny Puppy's Life
Not all heroes wear capes, and not all are in human form. Some of them can be animals, like dogs.
How did that sweet, big dog accomplish this? Did he rescue the puppy from danger?
It was a fine day when Ellie Smith, the founder of Sky Sanctuary Rescue, rescued a dog from the Arizona Humane Society. Unknown to her, she would also be rescuing a 3-week-old puppy who was in dire need of help.
While she was in the parking lot, Ellie overheard a woman rushing to the front desk with a completely limp tiny pup in her hands. The puppy was not even moving.
Thinking it was an emergency case, Ellie did not hesitate to offer help to the poor pup. She was certain of one thing: the Humane Society was going to euthanize the puppy.
She hurried to the lobby where the woman was and introduced herself, then handed the lady her card.
When Ellie returned to her car, she hoped to receive a call from the woman. She knew the puppy might die at any moment without immediate treatment.
Fortunately, the lady called. The puppy's new life journey began at that very moment.
The nearly lifeless Penelope the moment she was rescued.
The call came just in time. Ten minutes after handing over her card, Ellie received a call from the woman, who informed her that the Humane Society would euthanize the pup.
Ellie strongly opposed this and instructed the lady to bring the helpless pup to her vet right away.

Poor Penelope had many ticks.
These bloodsuckers had drained much of Penelope's strength, necessitating an emergency blood transfusion.

Murphy comes to the rescue.
The vet already had a blood donor in mind: their dog named Murphy. Hurriedly, his wife took their pet dog to the hospital.
Murphy took an immediate liking to Penelope and curiously watched her.

Hurray! Murphy's blood brought Penelope back to life!
Shortly after the transfusion, the tiny puppy's gums turned from pale to pinkish, and her eyes sparkled with life. What a special moment indeed!
Thanks to Murphy, Penelope's hero! Without him, she would not have survived.

Meet Penelope’s mom, Petunia.
As soon as Penelope was discharged from the hospital, she was taken home by Rachel Hendricks, the practice manager at Pet Urgent Care. Penelope needed timely and monitored bottle feeding.
Meanwhile, Ellie worked tirelessly to find and rescue Petunia.
Along with twenty-five other dogs, Petunia lived inside a fenced pen and spent her entire life in a dirt hole. There was no shelter for her to escape the weather, wind, or sun.
Ellie worked diligently to convince the property owner to allow her to take Petunia and the other ailing dogs.

Bravo! Penelope and Petunia were finally reunited!
After Petunia was treated for ticks, they were finally reunited. Petunia licked Penelope and allowed her to nurse.

Finally, a happy ever after for Petunia and Penelope.
The mom and puppy couldn’t have been happier to see each other again. Thanks to Ellie, who rescued the pup and tirelessly worked to locate Petunia, and thanks to Murphy for his heroism.
The once helpless duo are now both outgoing and love to cuddle with each other. Petunia and Penelope will stay together until they find a family of their own.
