His message was simple, sincere, and very on-brand for a child who clearly loves dogs more than anything. Once the neighbors shared it online, the story took off, and Arthur the golden retriever ended up becoming an internet favorite too.
Now the letter, the follow-up, and the reactions are all part of one very wholesome little saga. Read on.
Troy, a 4th grader and dog lover, wrote this letter in an attempt to maybe become this adorable pupper's sitter

The wholesome letter reads:
"Hello neighbors, my name is Troy. I’m in 4th grade, and I’m just wondering if maybe after this virus you need a dog sitter. If so, I can take your dog on walks and more,"
The little boy was hoping he could become the dog sitter for his neighbors’ golden retriever after the quarantine

Troy’s letter was posted on Arthur’s Instagram with the following caption:
"I made friends with a small hooman today. He’s basically me-sized. I bet I can get him to give me more treats than my hoomans."
Troy and Arthur were finally able to have their first play date together after a while

An update was eventually shared on Arthur's Instagram:
"Just a quick pupdate - me and the smol neighbor had a really great (socially distant) play date today. Because he’s so smol, we didn’t take any pics just for privacy purposes, but he told me all about his dog fren and even showed me some dance moves! I have a feeling we’re gonna be best buds!"
"I have a feeling we’re gonna be best buds!"

Arthur quickly became famous on Instagram after the letter went viral. The adorable pupper now has over 30k followers!

"My hoomans told me that my fren Troy and I broke the puppernet yesterday," Arthur "shared" on his Instagram. "I’m glad it brought me so many new frens! Do any of you have treats to spare? I celebrated my newfound celebrity status by trying to eat a dead baby bird because I gotta keep my hoomans humble."
This is the same kind of devotion as the lost toddler found in the woods with a faithful canine guardian.
