This Poor Dog Was Found Tied To A Hydrant With A Backpack Full Of All Her Things And Toys
We have our jobs, our friends, family, coworkers, sports and outdoor activities, and movie and game nights, but our pets have only us. If we abandon them, they are left with nothing.
Baby Girl, a puppy from Green Bay, Wisconsin, sat stoically on the grass of a residential street last weekend. She could've been waiting for her owner to return, tethered to a fire hydrant by her leash, as Kylie Rose Engelhardt assumed at first.
Fortunately, Baby Girl was not left alone in the cold for long. Engelhardt noticed her and came to a halt to check on her. "I waited outside with her for an hour, keeping her warm, hoping for someone to return but no one did," Engelhardt posted on Facebook.
A backpack that was next to the dog held all of Baby Girl's favorite things, including food, snacks, and toys, as well as a sad message.
When she realized that the poor dog had been abandoned, she brought her to the Wisconsin Humane Society.
“I did my best, everyone,” Engelhardt wrote. “Trust me, it breaks my heart, too.”
The photo of Baby Girl alone with her belongings has received a lot of attention this week. The 5-year-old canine is doing well, according to the shelter.
Baby Girl was found tied to a hydrant

"She is doing well and getting lots of TLC from our staff," Angela Speed, vice president of communications for the shelter, said. "She loves her walks, and toys and performs an adorable 'sit' for treats. She’s a happy and affectionate pup."
The backpack contained all of her favorite things and a heartbreaking letter from a previous owner

The woman who found her took her to the Wisconsin Humane Society

Wisconsin Humane Society issued a sympathetic post on Facebook yesterday, explicitly addressing Baby Girl's previous owner. The shelter acknowledged how tough it was to abandon Baby Girl when they felt they couldn't care for her any longer.
"We know how hard it is for someone to part with a beloved pet, and how traumatic it can be for the owner, too," Speed said. "We really wanted to let the owner know that we were not judging them and saw the love in everything they did to prepare Baby Girl to be quickly found and supported."
The letter said: “First and foremost, we are so sorry you had to part with your best friend,” Wisconsin Humane Society wrote on Facebook.
“It’s evident just how much you loved her and we can see you did your best while struggling with your own medical complications and challenges of life. We see your love in the bag you carefully packed with all of her favorite things.
We see your love in the way you secured her leash so she wouldn’t get hit by a car. We see your love in the way you placed her in the middle of a neighborhood where she’d be quickly found.
We see your love in how happy and healthy Baby Girl looks. And we see your love in the note you left, pleading for someone to help her when you no longer could.”
Baby Girl is now waiting to be adopted

Baby Girl has completed her "stray hold" and will soon be available for adoption. In the meantime, the beautiful pooch is getting lots of cuddles from the shelter staff as she waits for her second shot at a loving home.
“Rest assured that she’s safe, she’s getting tons of attention from our team, and she’s on track to find her next loving family very soon,” Wisconsin Humane Society wrote. “You can rest a little easier knowing your Baby Girl has a bright future ahead.”
