Shelter Dog Gets His Heart Broken When His New Family Decides Not To Adopt Him
Cody has spent practically his whole life in the care of the RSPCA. The shelter workers worked tirelessly to find him a new home, and they were overjoyed when they finally did. His new family spent months at the shelter getting to know him and making him feel at ease. Everything seemed to be going swimmingly until the family's circumstances changed.
“We were absolutely gutted when Cody’s adoption fell through the day he was due to be picked up,” Sarah Welham, a supervisor at the RSPCA’s Martlesham Animal Centre, stated in a press release.
Cody was all set to go to his new home that day, but instead, he found himself back where he started. “Now, Cody’s hunt for a new home begins again,” Welham said.
Cody exhibits several challenging habits, such as being reactive to strangers, dogs, and some automobiles, which may explain why he is sometimes overlooked. He's searching for a family who can support him as he continues to train and gain confidence.
“Cody is such a fabulous little dog, and he’ll thrive in the right home,” Welham said. “He finds strangers frightening, but once he gets to know you, his true soppy side comes out! He’s super affectionate and really playful. He absolutely loves his toys and will often greet you with one in his mouth while his whole body wags with excitement!”
This is Cody

Due to his peculiar character, Cody needs a calm home in a rural area away from the hustle and bustle of city life (don't we all?). All jokes aside, all he needs is a family who will be patient with him as he adjusts to his new life.
He may have his peculiarities, but he will be an excellent addition to a fortunate family. He only needs someone to believe in him.
He recently had his heart broken

“Although we were devastated that it fell apart at the last minute, it gave us and Cody great opportunities to meet new people, and it was wonderful to see how he adapted to the meetings. This has given us great insight to start looking for another home for him,” Welham said.
A family that was supposed to adopt him backed off at the last minute.

People often choose cute and cuddly dogs and stay away from dogs with character. That’s because they believe it won’t change. But that’s a misconception.
In a loving home, pets can drastically change their behavior. Once they realize they are finally safe and loved, it’s a 180-degree turn. But we have to give them a chance.
But he is not giving up

He is looking for a new home

It is hard to say what made this family back out. It is even harder to understand, given the time and effort they put into getting to know the dog and making him trust them.
In a way, they did more harm than good. They just confirmed his opinion about people – can’t trust them.
And we can’t blame him.
