Shelter Dog Gets His Heart Broken When His New Family Decides Not To Adopt Him
Cody has spent most of his life waiting for a home at the RSPCA, so when a family finally chose him, it felt like the ending everyone had been hoping for. They visited for months, got to know him, and helped him settle in, only for everything to unravel at the last minute.
Now the shelter dog is back where he started, and the reason he was overlooked in the first place is part of the problem. Cody can be reactive around strangers, other dogs, and some cars, which means he needs a patient home and plenty of time to build trust.
He was so close to leaving for good, and then the adoption fell apart.
This is Cody

Due to his peculiar character, Cody needs a calm home in a rural area away from the hustle and bustle of city life (don't we all?). All jokes aside, all he needs is a family who will be patient with him as he adjusts to his new life.
He may have his peculiarities, but he will be an excellent addition to a fortunate family. He only needs someone to believe in him.
He recently had his heart broken

Although we were devastated that it fell apart at the last minute, it gave us and Cody great opportunities to meet new people, and it was wonderful to see how he adapted to the meetings. This has given us great insight to start looking for another home for him.
It’s the same kind of reunion magic as when Cow burst into joy after reuniting with the family he thought he’d lost forever.
A family that was supposed to adopt him backed off at the last minute.

People often choose cute and cuddly dogs and stay away from dogs with character. That’s because they believe it won’t change. But that’s a misconception.
In a loving home, pets can drastically change their behavior. Once they realize they are finally safe and loved, it’s a 180-degree turn. But we have to give them a chance.
But he is not giving up

He is looking for a new home

It is hard to say what made this family back out. It is even harder to understand, given the time and effort they put into getting to know the dog and making him trust them.
In a way, they did more harm than good. They just confirmed his opinion about people - can’t trust them.
And we can’t blame him.
Still, Cody is waiting for the right person to come along.
Heartbroken Cody’s story hits different after you see the shelter dog crushed by rejection, then granted his wish.
