Rescue Organization Discovers Feral Cat Has A Bleeding Disorder After Performing Surgery On Him
The cat, Benny, is a unique individual with a strong will to live and a penchant for cuddling. What's more, he's searching for his forever home.
Before meeting him, you might have seen this wonderful feline as a potential beloved companion! Benny endured a series of horrendous experiences, which showcased both his resilience and the dedication of the Feral Cat Coalition and its staff.
When Benny left the streets of San Diego, California, and arrived at FCC, he required an eye removal and about 50% of his teeth extracted. As a feral little one, Benny was ear-tipped and neutered.
His surgery went well, but the next morning brought a dire situation. The FCC staff discovered Benny bleeding profusely from each of the three surgical sites.
He was then rushed to the vet, but the bleeding did not stop. The vet became concerned that Benny might have hemophilia, a condition characterized by the inability to clot blood, which is considered rare in cats.
If he was not a hemophiliac, there was another concern that he could have been a victim of rat poison, which can also cause excessive bleeding. That very night, Benny stayed with the clinical supervisor of FCC, who feared that the sweet cat might not survive the night.
Meet Benny, the fighter...
Despite feeling unwell, Benny expressed love and gratitude to his caretaker, who reciprocated in kind. Nevertheless, it was a challenging journey as Benny’s condition worsened in the days following his surgery.

His eye socket, mouth, and neuter site continued to bleed openly. Despite receiving frozen plasma treatments, pressure gauze, and the highest level of emergency care, Benny continued to bleed and, at the same time, grew weaker as the days passed.
Blood tests revealed that Benny had not been poisoned; rather, he was indeed a hemophiliac.
But now, he's doing better
This unfortunate cat suffered greatly and was on the verge of dying, but after several days of efforts to stabilize him, the bleeding finally slowed and eventually stopped. However, another concern arose—due to the significant blood loss, the clinical staff feared that Benny might have suffered brain damage.
They could now assist Benny with gaining weight
Benny had developed a heightened sensitivity to sounds and movement. In addition to these neurological concerns, Benny also needed to address his eye removal site after the stitches opened due to the bleeding.

“Through all of this, he remained very sweet, nudging, making biscuits, and cooing at us,” said the FCC.
Knowing the risks associated with surgery given his hemophilia, everyone held their breath for the outcome. Yet, as he does with everything else, Benny fought a good fight!

“Although we had so much hope, we never anticipated Benny doing this well,” his foster family shared.
The FCC staff and volunteers collaborated with Anna Brown from San Diego's Cat Adoption Service, surrounding the sweet cat with care. Soon enough, he was back on his paws, free from any neurological harm.
Benny got a happy ending
They could now assist Benny with gaining weight and overcoming his kitten cold. On the other hand, Benny showed that although he had lived on the streets, he was full of love and would cherish having a permanent home to settle down in one day.
Benny is home now!
Benny spent time in foster care, demonstrating that he was ready to leave his outdoor days behind in exchange for a family to cuddle with!
