Lily, the family's 10-year-old daughter, and Macy, a 6-year-old rescue who is a treasured member of the Kwan household, share a particularly close relationship. Despite being small and delicate, Macy's maternal instincts kicked in, and she was prepared to put herself in danger to save her human sister.

Lily and her dog Macy were being pursued by a coyote while out for a stroll in their Scarborough, Toronto, area. In a moment of panic, the 10-year-old girl dropped Macy's leash and fled for safety, but Macy stood up for her and successfully chased the wild beast away instead of following her owner.
Despite Sustaining Injuries from the Altercation, Macy’s Bravery Kept Both Her and Lily Safe
Despite getting hurt during the conflict, Macy's bravery protected both Lily and herself. The dog, although injured, continued to bark until the coyote was driven away.
The tiny puppy sustained serious wounds, so she was transported immediately to the vet.
Even Injured, the Heroic Puppy Stood Her Ground and Defended Her Owner
“She’s a super brave dog; I love her so much,” Lily said. “I just thought, this tiny dog could protect this huge human being, trying to fight off this huge coyote.”

The Tiny Dog Was Severely Injured, and She Was Immediately Taken to the Vet
Dorothy, Lily’s mother, said:
“Even after she was seriously injured, she continued to bark and chase the coyote away. She fought back.”
“My heart is breaking for both my little one and our dog, whom we rescued five years ago. I’m a single mom of two, and my children and our dog mean everything to me,” Dorothy said.
