Puppy Living in a Dumpster Used an Old Shoe for Protection from the Elements Until It Was Rescued by a Kind Man
There is a growing problem (that people have created) of stray dogs and other pets in the world, and no place is spared. Even in a tiny country called Serbia, where there is a deep-rooted love for animals, strays are not uncommon.
A man named Goran Marinkovic cares deeply for animals and personally feeds more than 100 stray animals. He receives no funding and relies on his own money and help from kind people to buy food for these poor animals.
The experienced animal rescuer thought he had seen it all until he found a stray puppy living in a dumpster and taking comfort in an old shoe. He says, “I take care of the animals on the streets. I love all animals—cats and dogs.”
Unfortunately, he also added that the number of stray animals is growing. One day, while on one of his usual feeding routes, he noticed a tiny puppy in a pile of scattered trash.
There was no owner or mother in sight, and the poor puppy was using an old shoe as shelter from the elements. We all know the fairytale about a woman living in a shoe, but this puppy’s story is far from a fairytale.
Goran’s heart broke when he saw this.

The poor puppy was literally living in a shoe
He started feeding him, but he knew he couldn’t leave him out on the streets to fend for himself. He took the puppy to the vet and brought him home, determined to give him the best life possible.
Eight months later, the puppy is happy, healthy, and thriving. His fur has become soft and shiny.
He is a well-adjusted and sociable dog, and he adores Goran. Goran already has several dogs and cats in his home and was planning to put Smesten (that’s what he named the puppy) up for adoption once he got better.
But he became attached to the dog he practically saved from the brink of death, and he simply knew he couldn’t let him go. So, he adopted him, and they are both quite happy with the arrangement.

The defenseless puppy had no one
And it took comfort and shelter in that old shoe
It was clear it needed help
Goran started feeding the puppy, but he somehow knew it wasn't enough...
He realized that the young dog had very little chance of surviving on his own, even with regular feeding.
So he took him in and named him Smesten.
Several months later, Smesten is a healthy and happy boy.

This story perfectly depicts how humans are capable of both cruelty and compassion. We are so thankful Goran was there to save that little puppy, and the fact that they’ve stayed together is just wonderful.
However, the fact that this man has to take care of hundreds of stray animals all by himself does make us wonder what’s wrong with the world today.
