Puppy Living in a Dumpster Used an Old Shoe for Protection from the Elements Until It Was Rescued by a Kind Man
A tiny puppy found a shocking place to hide from the cold, and the image is hard to forget. Instead of a warm bed or a safe home, he had an old shoe and a dumpster full of trash.
That is what Goran Marinkovic found while feeding stray animals in Serbia, where he already cares for more than 100 dogs and cats on his own. He had no funding, just his own money and help from kind people, and this puppy immediately stood out.
Goran did not walk away, and what happened next turned a heartbreaking rescue into a happy ending.

The poor puppy was literally living in a shoe
He started feeding him, but he knew he couldn’t leave him out on the streets to fend for himself. He took the puppy to the vet and brought him home, determined to give him the best life possible.
Eight months later, the puppy is happy, healthy, and thriving. His fur has become soft and shiny.
He is a well-adjusted and sociable dog, and he adores Goran. Goran already has several dogs and cats in his home and was planning to put Smesten (that’s what he named the puppy) up for adoption once he got better.
But he became attached to the dog he practically saved from the brink of death, and he simply knew he couldn’t let him go. So, he adopted him, and they are both quite happy with the arrangement.

Goran started feeding the puppy, but he somehow knew it wasn't enough...
He realized that the young dog had very little chance of surviving on his own, even with regular feeding.
So he took him in and named him Smesten.
Several months later, Smesten is a healthy and happy boy.

This story perfectly depicts how humans are capable of both cruelty and compassion. We are so thankful Goran was there to save that little puppy, and the fact that they’ve stayed together is just wonderful.
