Rescued Silkie Chicken and Two-Legged Dog Form a Special Bond of Friendship
Alicia Williams, an employee at Duluth Animal Hospital in Duluth, Georgia, helped save two unlikely companions, a silkie chicken named Penny and a two-legged chihuahua named Roo. What started as a rescue turned into a heartwarming friendship, and the pair quickly became impossible to separate.
Their story first appeared on Duluth Animal Hospital's Facebook page, where Penny and Roo soon became local favorites. Visitors now stop by to meet them, and clients are welcome to see the duo around the hospital's schedule.

Penny and Roo
Abandoned by the roadside, the chihuahua Roo was rescued by Alicia. His front two legs were missing, which appears to have been a birth deformity. It is presumed that he may have been abandoned by a dog breeder who was not interested in keeping him.

Penny and Roo quickly became the kind of pair people remember.
Penny and Roo Walking in Snow
A silkie chicken named Penny was scheduled to be euthanized by a laboratory until she was rescued.
Alicia shares with the Gwinnett Daily Post that, “She was an experimental chicken in the program, and she had run the course of the experiment, so that was it for her.” She further stated, “I asked if I could have her instead of them doing anything with her. I brought her home.”

Penny and Roo Playing
They love to play together, so much so that they even wrestle.

These two are always together and playing around. At times, Roo accidentally runs his cart over Penny.

Penny has very fluffy and silk-like feathers; therefore, she is called a silkie chicken.

However, it's a totally different story when she gets a bath.

Penny with Alicia
They have Alicia to thank for saving them from death and bringing them together. They are very attached to her. Penny is even laying eggs for her. Alicia has now adopted them, and she carries them to work with her in the morning and home after work. They love to travel with her, but in one carrier.

Penny and Roo's friendship is still stealing hearts.
