Photographer Has Brilliantly Captured the Imperfections of Rescued Disabled Dogs, Making Them Look Totally Perfect
Some rescue dogs arrive with scars, missing limbs, or other visible differences, and photographer Alex Cearns has turned those traits into something strikingly beautiful. Through her award-winning work at Houndstooth Studio, she has built a body of images that highlights resilience, personality, and the bond people feel with animals who are often overlooked.
Her book, Perfect Imperfection: Dog Portraits of Resilience and Love, brings together dogs with disabilities, including Pip, a rescued Bali street dog whose photos drew attention around the world. The project focuses on how these animals live, play, and connect with people in ways that feel both ordinary and unforgettable.
Each portrait makes the same point in a different way, these dogs are not defined by what they lack. Read on.
