Dog With Special Needs Is Finally Adopted By His Perfect Human After Being Returned To The Shelter Four Times
Bandit’s story starts like a lot of shelter dog tales, with a rough beginning and a long wait for the right person to notice him. After being found as a stray, he ended up in the Gwinnett Jail Dogs Program, then faced a serious health setback that left him paralyzed from the waist down.
That could have been the end of the road, but it turned into something much bigger. When Darrell and Sue Rider saw Bandit on Facebook, they felt an immediate connection, especially because Darrell also uses a wheelchair.
The adoption still came with a few twists, and Bandit had to prove he was worth the wait. Read on.
This is Bandit.

After being found as a stray, Bandit was placed into the Gwinnett Jail Dogs Program, a program that saves shelter dogs from being euthanized by having inmates care for them.

When Darrell and Sue Rider saw Bandit on Facebook, they knew they needed to meet him. Darrell felt an immediate connection with Bandit, as he also happens to be in a wheelchair.

“The most intriguing part of Bandit is that he and I share the same type of paralysis and use a wheelchair to get around,” Darrell said.

“Because Sue and I know what it’s like to live life in a wheelchair, we understood what Bandit needed. We also felt a much deeper connection.”

Bandit has settled in perfectly with his new family. “Bandit is doing great and has adjusted better than we could have imagined with his new family and surroundings,” Rider said.

Bandit’s turnaround echoes Stanford, the shelter dog who begged through kennel bars for adoption.
“We, as his family, couldn’t be happier to have Bandit in our lives.”
