Brave Woman Stood Her Ground To Rescue Her Horse Stuck In The Mud During A Rising Tide
Nicole Graham thought she was taking a simple beach ride with her daughter, but the day turned into a fight to save a horse trapped in deep mud as the tide rushed in.
Graham was riding her 17-year-old horse, Astro, while her daughter, Paris, rode a younger horse nearby. When both animals got stuck, Graham stayed with Astro for nearly three hours, holding on as he sank deeper and the water kept rising.
What happened next became a race against time, and Astro’s rescue was far more dramatic than anyone expected.
A ride on the beach turned into a nightmare for this mother-daughter duo and their two horses

Meanwhile, her mother remained next to Astro, calming him down. Both the horse and its owner were exhausted by the time a rescue team arrived.
Fortunately, after calming Astro, they were able to pull him to safety.

Graham, who owns ten horses, found the experience terrifying and stressful. It broke her heart to see Astro exhausted and struggling because there was mud everywhere, and every time he moved, it sucked him back down.
The horse's rescue was made possible thanks to the efforts of the fire department, which collaborated with a veterinarian and a local farmer.
It’s a lot like the Help Alberta Wildlife Society volunteers who pulled a wild horse from a 6-foot swamp.

Fortunately, Astro was unharmed by the incident, though he was dehydrated. It was a battle against the fiercely rising tide that they won.
"It was like quicksand," Graham explained.
She believed that many horses die from such incidents and that the chances of survival would have been much lower if the owner had not been present or not committed and patient enough to save the horse.
