Endearing Moment Baby Elephant Goes Into River To Save Her Caretaker Whom She Thought Was "Drowning"
One baby elephant decided her caretaker needed rescuing, and the result was as adorable as it was unexpected. At Elephant Nature Park in Thailand, 5-year-old Kham Lha saw Darrick Thomson swimming in the river and rushed in as if he were in real danger.
The sanctuary video captures the moment she charges toward him, convinced her favorite human is drowning. Kham Lha’s reaction says a lot about the bond they share, especially given the difficult past she came from before arriving at the park.
It is a sweet reminder that sometimes the strongest instincts come from the gentlest hearts.

"I went into the river to show just how remarkable the relationship with humans is," Darrick, originally from Canada, said. "If you show warmth and kindness to them, they will treat you well, too."
The kind-hearted elephant, Kham Lha, had a very difficult history and was brought to the sanctuary along with the other 18 rescued elephants.

The cute animals were made to carry tourists on their backs or perform tricks for amusement on the streets of Thailand. Thankfully, though, the cruelty was put to an end, and they may now live peacefully once more.
"She had been tied up and forced to undergo tough training known as crushing to prepare her to work in the tourist industry. We freed her and helped her recover. She became really close to me."
Now they share an incredible bond, and as the video proved, Kham Lha doesn’t want her friend to ever get hurt

When Kham Lha first arrived, she was only four years old. She quickly made friends with a staff member named Darrick, who took care of her as if she were his own child.
They now have a remarkable friendship, and the video demonstrated Kham Lha's desire for her companion to never experience pain. That's just wonderful.
