Sweet Mother Dog Finds Love In A Newborn Kitten That She Adopted And Treated As Her Own Pup
Cats and dogs are often used as a popular analogy of contradiction, making their interactions amusing and adorable. People even categorize themselves as either a "cat person" or a "dog person," and sometimes, that's all it takes to figure out someone's personality.
But what happens when two beings that are believed to be so opposite suddenly develop a heartwarming relationship? Sometimes, motherhood is embedded within us, and it doesn't matter what kind or how different others look; you just have this insatiable urge and need to care for them.
This sweet mama dog certainly proves that. Pet owners usually put in a lot of effort to introduce cats and dogs, slowly exposing them to each other so they can get used to one another's presence without feeling threatened.
It generally takes around two to three weeks for them to get along or even just tolerate each other, so it comes as a wholesome surprise when this mama dog seemed to fall in love at first sight with the newborn kitten that her owner, Brittany Callan, brought home. The kitten was found meowing weakly at the back of Callan's aunt's garage, and in hopes of letting the mother find her helpless baby, Callan placed the kitten in a soft blanket in a shaded area nearby.
That's when her Doberman Pinscher's motherly instincts kicked in.
Meet Ruby!
Callan's Doberman Pinscher, Ruby, has experience caring for other animals in the past. She has been known to carry baby bunnies in her mouth and lick guinea pigs as if they were her own.
She seems to possess excellent motherly instincts and is very careful with delicate and baby animals that come her way. The owner mentioned that she even tried nursing them when she was younger, as if they were hers to feed.
It was love at first sight.
As different and contrasting as their looks and sizes may be, all of that was thrown out the window once Ruby got a hold of the kitten. Callan introduced the kitten to Ruby, and the dog accepted it right away as a new baby.
The dog had just had her puppies recently, but she showed no hesitation in bringing this peculiar addition into her pack.
When the kitten was held out, Ruby started nudging and cleaning it on Callan's hand. The owner then tried opening the kitten's mouth and placed it on the dog's smallest nipple, and much to her delight, the kitten started sucking right away.
Ruby's puppies were already on their way to healthy growth, but the kitten didn't mind snuggling in with the rest of them, even though they were already three times her size. She seemed to have accepted Ruby as her mother, just as Ruby accepted her as her own child.
She had no problem fitting in with her new brothers and sisters as well!

Mama dog even goes out of her way to make the kitten feel clean and safe. The kitten always looks scruffy and wet because of Ruby's constant licking, but the dog just wants her to be clean.

She even carries the kitten in her mouth, and the adorable feline is always soaking wet because Ruby is so insistent on keeping her clean.
Even when Ruby is weaning her puppies, she can't seem to stand being separated from her baby kitten, even if it's just for a couple of minutes.
Such cuteness.
Talk about a mother's love; she seems so obsessed with the feline!
With Ruby's intensive care, the orphaned kitty seems to be having the time of her life basking in her mother's love. When the kitten is old enough, she will be transferred to Callan's cousin's home, where she will find her forever home.
Ruby and the kitten truly epitomize that love is all that matters. Even if you are depicted as two polar opposites in society, what else is there to say if a mother's love trumps it all?
