Female Dog Falls In Love With A Piglet, Treats The Little One As If It Were Her Own
As you scroll through animal posts on your phone, among the ones you'll see are older dogs being adorably protective of young animals different from their kind. Whether it's a domestic animal or a wild one, dogs are known for including various animals in their pack.
However, according to Dr. Stanley Coren, dogs don't just choose any animal. Moreover, female dogs are more likely to adopt a young mammal.
Biology explains this phenomenon. The baby animal emits pheromones to which a female dog will respond.
They'll begin to take on the role of a mother and care for the young one. Eventually, the bond between the two animals becomes permanent.
Dogs have this tendency to care for other animals because it is in their nature to be social. They can form bonds with both their own kind and other animals.
In this post, we will share a story about a rescue dog and a piglet. Roland Adam, a property developer, and his wife Edit, who is a bank employee, kept two Vietnamese pigs in Hoerstel, Germany.
The female pig gave birth to five piglets. Adam also found an abandoned small pot-bellied pig shivering in the cold.
He took the little creature home because its life could be in danger with foxes around.
The couple owns a rescue dog named Katjinga.

Adam gave the name Paulinchen to this two-week-old piglet.
The female Rhodesian Ridgeback rescue had 10-month-old puppies when Paulinchen came into her life. Adam thought that since Katjinga was already a mom, she could take care of the new young member of the family.
The female dog immediately bonded with the piglet and treated her as part of the family.

Katjinga and Paulinchen live on a huge farm that belongs to Adam.
The momma dog provides food for little Paulinchen whenever she's hungry. She would snuggle with her new mom.

Katjinga deserves the "Best Mom" award.
She immediately fell in love with the piglet and started cleaning her as if she were her own.

The story of the momma dog and her piglet became known to people on the internet.

Online users loved the heartwarming story of Katjinga and Paulinchen. They were touched by the love, compassion, and care shown by the momma dog.

But some people were a bit worried because Paulinchen might think she's a dog. Since Ridgebacks are known to be aggressive, they feared she might attack the little one at some point.

Did Katjinga show empathy for the abandoned little one? Or is it in her nature to care for an animal that doesn't belong to her kind?
Experts say that the emotional capability of dogs is similar to that of a toddler. In other words, their feelings are quite basic.
So even though dogs can support young animals, it is largely due to their instinct as leaders of the pack. But even if it's because of a dog's nature, you cannot deny that Katjinga dearly loves Paulinchen.
