Family Gives Dog All The Attention He Deserves To Celebrate His 14th Birthday
The Christopher family dealt with the unexpected loss of their beloved pet by rescuing another animal in need of a loving home. To do that, they drove all the way to Alabama from Florida, where they adopted a tiny pup named Dakota.
From that moment on, he became an official and important member of the Christopher family. Dakota's life has been quite adventurous and exciting.
He has lived in different locations with his family, such as Florida, Costa Rica, and Tennessee. He's always been a huge fan of the beach; ever since he was a little pup, he loved splashing around in the water and diving into the waves.
This doggo loved it so much that each year, his family would take him to the beach for his birthday.
“From a tiny baby, Dakota was an ‘old soul,’” Terri Christopher, Dakota’s mom, told The Dodo. “It's almost like he knew what we had been through, and really, it was he who rescued us! He has always had a laid-back personality and never even acted like a puppy.”

“We have always celebrated his birthday in big ways,” Christopher said. “Usually, it's a day at the beach with a big smile on his face… As he got older, the birthdays have become more profound, and we truly appreciate that we have been granted another year.”

As Dakota got older, he eventually didn't have enough energy to fully enjoy the beach anymore. However, his family still wanted to make his birthday special to show him how much he means to them.

For Dakota’s 14th birthday this year, the Christopher family found the perfect way to showcase to the whole world how much they love him by inviting everyone to join the celebration. They hung up a sign that says “Honk for my 14th birthday” on the passenger’s side of their car, where Dakota was sitting and smiling the whole time.
They made sure to give him all the attention he deserves by driving around with Dakota, and he loved every second of it.

“Last year at 13 was the first time we did the ‘honk for my birthday’ sign and car ride,” Christopher said. “He got such an amazing reaction and really seemed to enjoy all the attention. With his physical health declining over the last year, we were so fortunate to reach year 14, so of course, we had to do it again. Another wonderful trip around the sun. We had some serious celebrating to do!”
