Heartwarming Pictures Of A Man Taking His Dying Dog On One Last Trek Up Their Favorite Mountain
Monty was only 10, but he had already lived a full life of sniffing trails, stealing attention, and tagging along for hikes all over the country with his owner, Carlos. When his health started to fail, this wasn’t a “let’s squeeze in one more walk” moment, it was a last-steps kind of journey.
Even frail on the climb, Monty stayed determined, soaking up every head scratch and every kind face they passed on the hills. And because the story doesn’t stay private, strangers in Brecon stepped in too, offering to help push Monty along, turning a quiet goodbye into something bigger, with tears from people who didn’t even know the dog’s name before today.
That final trek up their favorite mountain became a moving reminder that love can travel farther than you think.
One last hike together

Monty, a 10-year-old dog, had been Carlos's partner in crime on numerous walks and hikes all over the country.

Despite being notably frail during the journey, Monty took delight in the affection and attention showered upon him by everyone they encountered!

While Carlos tried to steady Monty through the frail parts of the hike, the hills in Brecon kept delivering strangers who showed up with real kindness and real sadness.
That’s when total strangers offered to help push Monty on his last journey, and the whole trail turned into an emotional little crowd.
“People on the hills were so kind and equally sad at his deteriorating condition,” Carlos said. “In fact, total strangers asked if they could share in pushing Monty on his last journey – many total strangers shed a tear, as we all dearly love our little four-legged friends.
I would like to thank them all for their support, encouragement, and genuine concern over Monty. That little guy touched so many lives. He made everyone he came into contact with smile.”

Even as Monty’s condition deteriorated, he still seemed to enjoy the fuss, the attention, and the soft heartbreak in everyone’s faces.
“Our little companions are never judgmental, are always there waiting for you, and offer comfort when things haven’t gone well,” the owner said.
“I would like to thank all the wonderful people that we met in Brecon and on the hills for their true kindness and genuine sympathy. He was truly a special boy. God bless and goodnight, little fella.”
