Hershel the dog spent his whole life in chains, and the second he finally saw the ocean, his entire body acted like it had just been unplugged from sadness.
After a new family took him in, his joy came out sideways, because he was so excited and overwhelmed that his new owners thought he might be aggressive. Then came the snowy mountains, the road trip, and the beach, where Hershel’s reaction was pure, bouncing proof that freedom hits different.

That first “fun-filled day” with Rocky Kanaka, including a couple of hours in the snowy mountains, is basically when Hershel’s whole personality flipped from shut down to full volume.
As he was taken in by a new family, the street appeared to have a rising sun once more. However, Hershel is an enthusiastic, joyful, and content dog, and this proved to be too much for his new owners.
His demeanor gave the impression of being aggressive. Just when it seemed he might have to live out the rest of his days in a cage, someone happened to have space for him.
Hershel Is About to Have the Moment of His Life
But even after Michelson Found Animals gave him the care he needed, the real twist was that his joy was so intense his new owners originally read it as trouble.
He was turned over to Michelson Found Animals, who provided him with the necessary care and medical treatment. With the help of Rocky Kanaka and his "Dogs Day Out" initiative, Hershel was able to go on a trip he would never forget.
They gave him a fun-filled day as their first act of kindness. A couple of hours of play in the snowy mountains preceded the road trip, and Hershel was ecstatic about the new fluffy material, as you may imagine.

Once the beach became the next stop on the “Dogs Day Out” trip, all that bottled-up energy finally had somewhere to go, and it showed immediately.
Hershel could now run, explore, and enjoy all he had missed so much, but the best was still to come. The beach was going to be their next destination.
The dog's response when he saw the water for the first time was amazing. He was simply unable to control himself.

You can practically see the moment he starts biting the waves and jumping in and out like a dolphin, because the ocean was the first thing that didn’t feel like a cage.
It would be a grave understatement to say the dog was excited. You can see Hershel bouncing, whining, and yelling with delight as soon as he sees the waves crashing against the sand.
His joy was even greater when he was carried along the shore to dip his paws in the ocean. Kanaka shared in the video, saying:
"He was biting the waves and jumping in and out like a dolphin. It brings happy tears to my eyes knowing that he’ll now be loved forever."
