Long-time Shelter Resident Pit Bull Finds His Forever Home Thanks to One Dedicated Volunteer
Caesar spent years waiting for a break, and one shelter volunteer refused to let him be forgotten. The pit bull had already survived a rough start, but his story changed when Doug Sears started taking him out for walks and sharing his photos online.
The Animal Charity of Ohio had been Caesar's home for five years after volunteers found him chained outside his old house with severe mange and later learned he was heartworm positive. Doug, who volunteers at the shelter and works nearby, kept showing up on his lunch breaks and building a bond with the dog no one seemed to want.
Then one Facebook post finally reached the right person, and Caesar's long wait came to an end. Read on.
Here's the 8-year-old pit bull Caesar

Look at him with those gentle eyes!

Doug took Caesar on his first car ride. The good boy is enjoying it!

That post was the turning point.
After sharing Caesar's story on his Facebook account, someone interested in adopting Caesar reached out to Doug!
Slowly but surely, the potential dog mom introduced Caesar to her home through visits and overnight stays.

After five long years, Caesar finally found his forever home!
Doug was elated by the news, and so were the people from the Animal Charity of Ohio! They wrote about it on their page.
They shared: "He is going HOME!! We love this sweet boy so, so much!! Thank you, Barb, for working so hard to give him the much-deserved life he deserves! We are going to miss him like crazy!"

Doug was very happy for Caesar, and as a celebration, he took his buddy for one last hike before he goes to his new home.

Caesar wouldn't have found his new home without Doug's help. The bond that they share is special.
As Doug says, there's something about Caesar that stole his heart.

Doug made sure their final outing was one to remember.
Doug’s five-year wait for Caesar feels like the same kind of spark that led a compassionate person to transform abandonment into a fresh start for an orphaned dog in the puppy left with a note.
He commemorated their final adventure with one last post featuring photos and videos of Caesar happily walking alongside Doug.

Other people were also excited for Caesar's move!

Doug and Caesar's story captured the attention of many people.
Publications were interested in their unique bond. Doug insists that he's not a hero; he was just a lucky soul who met Caesar. He also used it as an opportunity to advocate for other animals at the shelter.

And Doug is still showing up for the next dog in line.
As for Caesar, he happily lives with his new mom, Barb, and they seem to be getting along well.
Caesar can run freely now in their yard and be his sweet self without worrying about whether he will get the love he deserves.

With Caesar finding a new home, Doug hasn't slowed down in his walking duties. He still spends his lunch hours walking different dogs from the shelter across from his office.
Doug tirelessly shares photos of the dogs he bonds with, hoping that, like Caesar, they will also find their forever homes. In no time, Doug will surely help these pups find good and loving homes.
Some shelter dogs just need one person to keep believing in them.
