A Homeless Kitten That Is Neither Male Nor Female Has Been Discovered For The First Time In History
A tiny tabby and white kitten named Hope has turned up with a medical mystery that vets say they have never seen before. Found homeless and first thought to be female, the 15-week-old rescue cat has since been examined at Cats Protection in Warrington, UK, where no sex organs were found at all.
That has left staff dealing with a case that appears to be far rarer than hermaphroditism, since Hope seems to have neither male nor female reproductive organs. The kitten is now waiting to be adopted at the Tyneside Adoption Centre, while the team keeps a close eye on how she develops.
For now, Hope is healthy, playful, and still full of surprises.

At the Tyneside Adoption Center of Cats Protection, Hope is presently waiting to be adopted. The veterinary officer added:
“This is not something we’ve come across before at Cats Protection. While this means we don’t have any previous cases to base our knowledge on how this will affect Hope in the future, we spent time monitoring this cat to ensure she can urinate and defecate appropriately before she is considered ready for rehoming.”

Tyneside Adoption Centre manager Beni Benstead said:
“Discovering Hope’s special status has been an exciting time, as none of us have seen this before or are likely to again. Hope has been a delight to care for, and it is fantastic that she is now ready to be adopted.”
