Relationship On The Rocks After Woman Discovers Boyfriend’s Shocking Cat Hygiene Habit
When you start dating someone new, you expect to learn about their quirks: maybe they leave dishes in the sink, maybe they snore.
But this woman (OP) learned something far worse about her boyfriend: he thought it was fine to leave cat poop stuck in his pet’s fur for two days.
According to OP, she’s been dating him for about six months. He lives with two long-haired cats, and she’d gotten used to their constant cuddles.
During a sleepover, she woke up in the middle of the night to feel one of the cats snuggled against her head. It felt like a sweet moment… until a strong smell hit her.
She brushed it off, assuming it was just the litter box, and went back to sleep.
The next morning, OP spotted a bit of poop stuck in the cat’s fur and pointed it out. Her boyfriend shrugged it off, saying he’d deal with it later because the cat didn’t like being groomed.
She then suggested just trimming the spot with scissors, but he refused.
Two days later, she checked in to know how he dealt with the situation. To her utter disgust, he admitted the cat poop was still there. In words, “it’s easier to get it out when it’s dry.”
That was the last straw for OP. She expressed her disgust and insisted that she wouldn’t be visiting anytime soon.
In addition, OP pointed out that such behavior was a red flag that exposed just how serious he takes hygiene.
Now, you would think her boyfriend would be remorseful at this point…oh no! Rather, he accused her of overreacting.
To date, she can’t shake the thought of cat poop being spread all over his home, and she needs a second opinion on this matter.

Let’s dig into the details

While snuggling with her boyfriend’s cat, she smelt cat poop, but didn’t react since she thought it was coming from the litter box

By the next morning, she noticed poop on the cat’s body, and they both started going back and forth on the best way to get it out of its fur

Two days later, she inquired about how he handled it, only to discover that he still hadn’t gotten the poop out of the cat’s fur

We gathered some interesting reactions from the Reddit community

“Apart from being really unhygienic for the environment it's really unfair on the cat.”

“Having a pet means taking responsibility for their care, health and happiness.”

“That's so gross. My cat got a poop stuck on her butt just a few days ago and I immediately grabbed her and cleaned her.”

“This is a health concern for you guys, and a real hygiene red flag for him.”

“I could see waiting until you had left so the cat is more calm, but 2 days!? No, just no.”

“NTA- this is unsanitary for both humans and cats.”

“I hope you're keeping on top of your birth control. This guy will treat a child the same way.”

There’s a difference between being laid-back and being careless, and this story walks that line.
The overwhelming majority of Redditors are on OP’s side. In fact, they view this incident as a clear sign of how her boyfriend handles basic cleanliness and responsibility.
Relationships often reveal red flags in unexpected ways, and this one just happened to involve a very unfortunate cat.
What do you think? Was she right to be disgusted, or was she blowing things out of proportion?
