Four-Year-Old Twins Were Lost In Italy And Their Pit Bull Dog Stayed With Them The Whole Time

Two four-year-old twins vanished during a family outing in Udine, Italy, and the search quickly turned into a race against the dark. Adele and Elisabetta were out with relatives when they suddenly went missing, drawing a crowd of worried locals who spent hours looking for them.

As night fell, Alexei Coianiz and his friend Francesco joined the search, first by car and then on foot when traffic made it impossible to keep driving. Another father, Silvio, soon stepped in too, and the group headed into the woods with flashlights, hoping they were getting close.

What they found instead was the twins' pit bull, Margot, and a story nobody there would forget.

"We walked along repeatedly calling the two girls, but nothing," Alexei wrote on Facebook. "The woods are very dense, and our torches are almost useless." After a while, they saw a tiny building and thought they had found the girls, but sadly it was empty.

So, they kept walking and calling their names, and after an hour, they heard someone screaming back to them, "We're here! We're hungry! Come!"

When Alexei and his group walked toward the voices and shone their flashlights, they saw a Pit Bull sitting with its back to them. This was Margot, the little girls' dog, and also their protector. She had protected them the whole nine hours that they were lost.

"She immediately started running towards us, licking us and facendoci le feste (as we say in Italy)," Alexei told The Dodo. "At the moment I found them, I was really calm and focused on what to do next, which was making sure they were healthy and comfortable."

As the rescuers made the girls comfortable and warm, they went to alert the other parties that were searching, but Margot still didn't move a muscle. She stayed as close as possible to the girls.

"Francesco and I stayed with the twins and the dog, who didn't want to move," Alexei said. "She has to protect her children."

And just like Lara, who was left to die but stayed loyal through her untold secret, this Pit Bull refused to abandon the twins.

The girls were safely returned to their family, and after Alexei, Silvio, and Francesco went home, they knew they had a story to tell their grandkids one day.

"What can I say?" Alexei wrote. "A story to tell your children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren."
