Heroic Rescue Group Sets Over 250 Cats And Dogs Free From Cruel Animal Testing Facility
A 28-year-old woman refused to ignore what was happening to beagles in a lab, and that stubborn refusal turned into a full-on animal rescue operation. Shannon Keith started BFP in 2010, and somehow this Los Angeles nonprofit grew into the Avengers for animals trapped in laboratory testing.
The facility was tucked away in “no man’s land,” and the cruelty wasn’t subtle, it was systematic. BFP’s team kept pulling animals out, but then came the curveball: the cats they rescued had nowhere to go, because the shelters were already packed and the clock was ticking.
That’s where Nathan Kehn, aka “Nathan the Cat Lady,” stepped in and turned a rescue problem into a rapid adoption streak.
Shannon Keith could no longer turn a blind eye to the cruelty against beagles, so BFP was born!

Since its founding in 2010, this Los Angeles-based nonprofit has turned into the Avengers for animals used in laboratory testing.
The mad scientist lab was conveniently located in “no man’s land.”

These adorable fur balls were confined

It’s like a concentration camp; but for animals. Unacceptable by any standards.

Before BFP could celebrate another escape, Shannon Keith had to confront the fact that the beagles were just the start of the horror.

Now, here’s where our story takes an exciting turn. BFP, primarily a dog rescue, faced a unique challenge with the cats they rescued.
The cat shelters were full, and they had absolutely no idea what to do with them. But fear not; for every challenge, there’s a hero waiting in the wings.
California’s unending ‘kitty season’ turns every cat rescue center into a purr-packed paradise.

Once the seven lucky cats came out of the lab, BFP hit a wall, their cat shelters were full and they had zero plan.

And if you think rescues only happen on the ground, watch a pilot adopt a stray cat mid-flight during a hurricane evacuation.
They swiftly turned to Nathan Kehn, A.K.A. Nathan the Cat Lady, a prominent figure in the cat community. The response was immediate, and before anyone knew it, all seven lucky cats were adopted! Talk about a purr-fect rescue mission.

Then Nathan Kehn, known as Nathan the Cat Lady, answered the call, and all seven cats found homes fast.

The gang soon teamed up again for another epic rescue mission, and this time, Nathan did more than just find fur-ever homes for abused kittens.
Fast forward to Valentine’s Day 2024, and BFP made hearts throb with an exciting announcement. They’d not only rescued these adorable animals but also put an end to a third of the flea and tick testing industry. In addition to that, they acquired the 30-acre property for themselves!
With BFP’s noble efforts, beagles can now rest easy—and other oppressed animals, too, of course.

A rescued Cat is a Happy Cat

By Valentine’s Day 2024, BFP wasn’t just rescuing anymore, they were putting a stop to a third of the flea and tick testing industry and buying the 30-acre property for Freedom Fields.

The former lab is getting a major makeover—think less mad scientist’s lair, more spa retreat for pets. They’re calling it Freedom Fields, and soon, it will be a sanctuary where former lab captives can frolic freely, possibly while sipping on dog-friendly piña coladas.
Nathan the Cat Lady flew in, toolbox in hand, ready to help build the paradise. The plan includes everything from posh dog dens to a "catio" (it's like a patio, but for cats—get it?).
There’s even talk about a senior animals’ center; BFP really thinks of everything.
After rehabilitation comes a luxury treat at Freedom Fields, then happily ever after with loving parents

With a little team effort, the road to creating the purr-fect next chapter for these cats won’t be too far off.
And here’s where you come in, dear reader. It doesn’t matter if you’re a dog lover, a cat enthusiast, or just someone who’s into happy endings. The real tragedy would be to stop the momentum here.
Flea and tick products don’t need to be tested on animals, and BFP is on the front lines, ensuring the industry gets the update it desperately needs.
As we celebrate these happy new beginnings, let's also join forces to create a world where every animal can thrive without fear or suffering.
Freedom Fields is basically the opposite of that mad scientist lab, and the animals get to live like it.
