Photo Of A Toddler Hitting A Dog Sparks Outrage Towards Irresponsible Parents Online
Dogs have been on the receiving end of abuse throughout the years, and they are often abandoned or euthanized for doing something completely innocent. Many people frequently forget that dogs are not human beings—they don't think as humans do, they don't act as you would expect a normal person to, and they most definitely do not have the capacity to understand human emotions as much as we believe they do.
Sure, they might know when you are sad, happy, or angry, but they could never fully comprehend the reasons why you are inflicting these emotions upon them, simply because they are still animals at the end of the day. Some people think that dogs can become violent for no reason, but if they are displaying rowdy and aggressive behavior, there is a high chance that they may have been provoked in the first place.
Dogs are generally cautious around humans, especially with little ones, but there have been instances where they have hurt kids—and then get punished for doing so. What parents fail to realize, however, is that this issue goes both ways; they also have to teach their kids basic respect for animals, especially dogs.
If children are the ones displaying abusive behavior but are excused simply because they are kids, then they are most likely the problem in this situation. Dogs will act out of self-defense whenever they feel threatened, and it's extremely important that kids learn how to act and care for them properly, as emphasized in a Tumblr thread that you are about to see.
There have been multiple cases of dogs hurting kids—but kids shouldn't even be allowed to mistreat dogs in the first place. The parents are responsible for any consequences that may occur if they fail to teach their child the right way to play with their pet (one that does not involve hitting them in any way, of course).

Dogs simply do not have the same cognitive ability as humans to process emotions and complex thoughts, and will mostly just try to defend themselves one way or another.
Mom told toddler me not to spook our dog when he slept, but I did it anyway. I have a scar on my face from the bite. I got in trouble; the dog did not. –EspiKitsune

It's truly disheartening how these animals are painted as the bad ones when humans are the ones at fault in the first place. Even the most well-behaved animal has limits.
We adopted a 4-month-old dachshund mix that was “not doing well” in her previous home. When we went to meet the family, they walked in with the toddler hitting her the entire time they walked over. The dog was nipping at her in response, and we could tell that’s why she was a goner.
She’s actually a perfect dog now and is the sweetest little nugget. As my boyfriend proclaims, they should have gotten rid of the kid instead. –FartSymphony

It all starts with parents finally teaching their kids how to treat animals properly.
I thought it was just a general rule of thumb anyway to not let kids be unsupervised with pets. I mean, in the end, our pets are animals. –RoseBut

Dogs don't have the ability to tell anyone to "stop" whatever it is that they are doing to hurt them, so it's natural for them to react quite violently when their safety is threatened. There's never a valid excuse to abuse animals, so if you're a parent of a little one, it's time to teach them the right way to love these creatures.
