Good Guy Neighbor Gets Harassed By Single Mom For Walking The Elderly Neighbor's Dog For Free But Not Her 3 Dogs
Some people help out because it is the right thing to do, and then they get treated like they owe everybody else the same favor. That is exactly what happened to one dog-loving neighbor who only wanted to help an elderly woman next door.
In a recent Am I The A**hole post, u/dogwalker-aita described how he started walking his 86-year-old neighbor's dog, Frank, for free after noticing she struggled with the daily routine. Things stayed friendly until a new neighbor moved in, saw the arrangement, and decided OP should also walk her three dogs. When he said no, she kept pushing, leaning on excuses about being a single mom and too busy to do it herself.
Now the situation has turned into a neighborhood standoff, and the letter she sent afterward only made it messier. Read on.

For once, Reddit was united in their answer. It was a resounding no that OP was not the a**hole in this situation.
OP was thinking of installing a doggy door in the old lady's home to avoid running into the entitled new neighbor.

That letter definitely did not help her case.
It's a smart move to keep that letter just in case the new neighbor becomes even more unreasonable.

Some people just really think the world owes them everything.

Pretty obvious answer according to this person

Asking once and getting declined is one thing, but repeatedly harassing someone you don't know to do something for you is trash behavior.
According to OP, he would have been understanding if the lady had just asked once, but she didn't stop! And apparently, he hasn't seen her walk her dogs ever since she moved in!

Reddit had little patience for the repeated asks.
This is similar to the woman who tried to ban them from walking their dog in “her” neighborhood.
Do I have time to walk my dogs? NO. Do I have time to write a letter to berate my neighbor? Why, I have all the time in the world.

Gather evidence, and this person is right.

Ignore her completely, says this sympathetic commenter...

... and OP seems to agree.

Choose!

It will take a few hours of your day, and that's four dogs in total if OP said yes to her.

According to OP, the old lady actually pays her in cookies.

Obviously, the old lady needs the help more than the able-bodied single mom...

That is a lot to ask from one neighbor.
... and OP says four dogs are too much for him to handle.

Another person suggested the petty revenge route...

... our kind dog walker likes the idea.

Good for you, OP, says this commenter!

This person suggests that OP should agree to walk the three dogs straight to the rescue center...

... but OP doesn't relish the idea of interacting further with the entitled neighbor.

This commenter wondered if the lady ever offered to pay...

... big surprise: of course she didn't.

Sure, being a single mom is challenging, but that doesn't mean you can just expect people to do things for you to make your life easier.
It's not okay to demand free labor. If you ask and the other person says no, respect their decision to decline whatever favor you asked for.
Hey, at least OP is still friends with Frank and the elderly neighbor! Those free grandma cookies sound heavenly, to be honest.
Nobody owes a stranger free dog walking.
OP thought he was wrong for walking his dogs on a hostile neighbor’s lawn, read how that played out.
