Two Sibling Kittens With Disabilities Get A Second Chance At Life And We're All Fawning Over Them
Otter and Bunny did not get the easiest start, but their story quickly turned into one of those rare rescue moments people cannot stop sharing. Two tiny kittens, both born with disabilities, were found in Northern California and brought to safety just in time.
Caroline Grace stepped in and took them to Baby Kitten Rescue, where the siblings could get medical care and a foster home. Otter needed urgent treatment for a serious birth defect, while Bunny was missing both front legs, and both kittens were still far too young to be on their own.
Now the pair is recovering together, and their bond is part of what makes this story so hard to look away from. Read on.
This is them! Caroline Grace, Otter, and Bunny in one frame!

Poor babies, they only wanted their mama, but thankfully Grace was there to save the day! Look at them, so cozy and cuddly after being left on a sad street in Northern California.

Grace immediately took them to Baby Kitten Rescue when she observed that the kittens were missing limbs and were devastatingly hungry.

The rescue effort moved fast from there.
This is Otter, the big brother.

Doesn’t he look adorable?

He was born with a rare condition called “Meningoencephalocele,” a congenital defect. This caused his skull not to fully develop and close, leaving a hole in the top of his head where a small part of his brain can be seen.

Get well soon, Otter!

Adorable Otter, you’ll get better in no time.

The people at the rescue center made sure Otter received the best treatment. They let him wear a custom-made helmet to protect his brain.

It’s just like an accessory!

Otter is an adventurous kitty; he loves to roam around.

And if you’re thinking about pet chaos, this is like the neighbor’s cat that killed one of a boy’s rabbits.
He’s already cute, but he’s also playful, loves to snuggle and rest, and purrs at everyone!

This is Otter when he had surgery to place his brain back inside his skull, and his head was covered with a titanium mesh.

He’s on his way to recovery! Let’s all say a little prayer for his healing.

This is Otter’s lovely little sister, Bunny!

Like her brother, she was also born with a defect called congenital bilateral hemimelia. She was born with both front legs missing.

Cute little Bunny!

Bunny, just slaying the day!

She’s learning to move on her back legs slowly every day. Yay!

She’s an inspiration to her brother. Otter has also learned how to stand on his feet because of Bunny.

Bunny’s such a funny kitty; she’s been given aids to get to her bed, but she still jumps from the ground to reach it.

Bunny is happy to be given a chance to live. Hooray!

That bond is clearly doing a lot of the heavy lifting here.
Caroline Grace is proud to see both kittens doing well in their treatment.

You can’t separate the two!

Siblings, always and forever.

Both siblings are an inspiration to each other. Look how adorable they are!

Otter and Bunny are also inspirations to all the people out there. Don’t lose faith; like the kittens, there’s always hope for recovery!

Caroline Grace wants the siblings adopted together, and it is easy to see why. She is grateful that Otter and Bunny are recovering quickly and staying side by side through it all.
