OP and his girlfriend talked about getting a dog, but the OP wanted to wait until they found a new home with a yard. However, his girlfriend was impatient and kept looking at the puppies until she finally found one that was not well cared for and wanted to take it in.
The OP agreed, but on the condition that his girlfriend helps with the responsibilities of taking care of the puppy. At first, everything was great.
But eventually, the girlfriend became frustrated with the dog's progress in potty training and started to crate her. OP did his best to remind her that it was not the right way to train a dog to potty.
His girlfriend seemed to understand the problem and continued to take good care of their sweet puppy. Six months later, the girlfriend's father passed away, and the OP had to take care of both his girlfriend and the dog.
But his girlfriend now tells him she can't take care of the puppy since she is in pain herself due to her loss. She also accuses him of being selfish in taking care of the dog and believes the dog gets between their relationship.
OP is now unsure what to do because he loves the dog and is attached to her, so he definitely doesn't want to rehome her.
