Photographer Captures The Love Between Men And Cats
Cats have long been boxed into stereotypes, but photographer David Williams is making a case for something different. His project highlights men with their cats, and the result is equal parts charming and quietly subversive.
Originally from Denver and now based in Brooklyn, Williams started the work in 2009 and has spent years photographing men with their feline companions in homes and out on the street. As the images show, cat love does not belong to one type of person.
And once you see the photos, the old “crazy cat lady” idea starts to look pretty outdated.
Not long after its release in 2016, Williams' photobook, "Men With Cats: Intimate Portraits of Feline Friendship", became a New York Times bestseller. According to happiness researcher Gretchen Rubin, "The bond between humans and animals can greatly enhance our emotional well-being, providing companionship and joy." This sentiment reflects the deep connections captured in Williams' work.

When Dr. Helen Fisher, a biological anthropologist, was asked about the bond between men and their cats, she stated, "The companionship of pets, particularly cats, can provide emotional support and joy, transcending traditional gender roles."

Williams began the project in 2009.
