Taiwanese Artist Wonderfully Illustrated Life Changes After Getting A Pet
Getting a pet can feel like pure joy at first, especially when a dog or cat starts turning a house into a home. But the cute moments usually come with a longer list of changes than people expect, from extra cleaning to new routines and a lot more responsibility.
That is exactly the kind of reality Taiwanese artist John turns into cartoons. His illustrations show the messy, funny, and surprisingly emotional side of living with pets, and they come from his own life with rescued animals.

No one can deny that getting a pet is an excellent feeling, but you must also be prepared for it. A new pet can be overwhelming for some people. The UK's veterinary charity, The People's Dispensary for Sick Animals, advises that you should first think about P-E-T-S: place, exercise, time, and spending.
Start by considering how much free space you have where your future pet could play and run. Dogs need more space than cats. Even guinea pigs require running space. Then, think about your activities. Can you go on frequent walks, spend quality time, and play with the pet?
Pets are usually sociable, and some particularly enjoy their owner's company, so they must not be left home alone for extended periods because they can become lonely and anxious. Consider how much time you can devote to a pet.
Consider the costs of having a pet, not just the initial expense. Food, toys, equipment, medical treatments, furniture or clothing replacement, additional cleaning fees. How much money are you prepared to spend?
Think it through, and you will figure out which animal would suit you best, and then go and get one. It’s the most rewarding experience, especially if you adopt.
That is where the reality check usually starts.

John says his own experience was the key source of inspiration for the cartoon series. "I got used to and kind of like all the life changes that happened to me after I got my pets, and I think other animal lovers will agree with me on this.
The only 'change' that's hard when it comes to pets is saying goodbye when it's time for them to go." Unfortunately, the Golden Retriever you see in the pictures has passed away. Now, I have a Taiwanese dog and six cats." John rescued all his pets from the streets.
His cartoons keep the focus on the everyday side of pet life.
