Black Kitty's Ability to Camouflage Inspired This Woman's Hilarious Comics
Cats have a talent for disappearing in plain sight, especially the black ones that seem to melt into every shadow. For one Alaskan artist, that habit turned into a running joke, and then into a comic that perfectly captured the struggle of finding a sneaky pet.
The artist, who goes by Ristay, lives with Petunia, a skittish rescue cat who feels safest around the family’s black German Shepherd, Atreyu. Their close bond gave Ristay the idea for a comic about how hard it can be to spot Petunia when she is tucked right up against her dog buddy.
It is a simple setup, but the payoff is hilarious, especially once you see how the rest of the pets fit into the picture.
How to Find a Lost Cat

“I drew the comic one night when I was at my wit's end because I couldn’t find her, and I had searched for Atreyu all over the place. She was under his tail with her eyes closed, so there was no reflection!” Ristay said.
Petunia and Atreyu have been cuddling buddies ever since Petunia was a baby. They both equally enjoy their cuddling sessions. Considering the German Shepherd's past, he also likes receiving affection.
“Atreyu is a rescue. He was beaten and abused as a pup, starved, and malnourished as well,” his owner explained. “When we adopted him, we didn’t know what kind of personality he would have due to the abuse, but we knew he was our baby no matter what. He ended up being the perfect dog, very loving, and he adores our cats too.”
Almost all of Ristay's pets are rescues; she has two cats and two dogs:
“My other two beasts are my other German Shepherd, Jaeger (just an all-around lovable goofball pup), and Diesel, my gray fluffy cat. He has a fan following for his ‘seductive poses.'”

Ristay’s pets get along great most of the time; they have managed to form a strong bond.
“I’ll come home to a pile of animals, all waiting for me to join them,” the artist said. “They also all stalk me as I am ‘the mother ship.'”
Diesel is the only one who has shown some signs of jealousy.
“He had a life crisis when we brought home Petunia. He had never seen another cat in his life before,” Ristay explained. “I got a black eye out of that one, but once he realized what she was, he fell in love.”
And if you need a real-life rescue, it’s like the unlikely pawed savior helping a distressed lady retrieve her car keys from a hole.
