Devoted Cat Got His Hospital Job As "Security Guard" For Always Hanging Around
Elwood did not just wander into a hospital and leave a good impression, he apparently earned a staff badge. The friendly cat has spent the past year hanging around Epworth Hospital in Richmond, Australia, where patients and staff quickly got used to seeing him at the entrance.
At first, people assumed he was a stray, but his daily visits turned him into something of a local celebrity. Instead of shooing him away, the hospital embraced the routine and gave him an official role as a security guard, complete with a badge.
Now Elwood has the kind of workplace story most cats can only dream about, and his hospital career is getting plenty of attention. Read on.
Meet Elwood

This cute little guy has spent the last year hanging around Epworth Hospital in Richmond, Australia.

At first, he was often assumed to be a stray.
Pathologist Chantel Trollip told Bored Panda:
“When I first saw him, he wasn’t wearing anything, so I assumed he was a stray. Then someone put a collar and tag on him, and most recently, he’s got his own ID badge, which is identical to our actual staff badges, down to the call codes on the back.”

That assumption did not last long.
And then he got officially employed!
“I first noticed his ID badge on him in June. I was actually having a case of the sads that day, but seeing his ID badge turned my whole mood around!”

Elwood clearly made himself part of the team.
Elwood’s hospital hangout feels similar to the stray cat who snuggled a tired nurse for a nap.
Employee of the Month!

“He is lovely and friendly, but not overly affectionate. He enjoys a good pat but likes to keep things short and move around a fair bit. He is on the security team, after all, and has to make sure everyone coming and going gets checked,”

They discovered Elwood lived across the road from the hospital. Trollip said:
“He’s never really tried to get into the hospital; I think he’s too small to activate the automatic doors anyway. There is a kidney dish from the hospital that someone has turned into a water bowl for him.”

What do you think of the hospital's furriest employee?
It would make my day, that's for sure.
