Loving Cat Returned To Animal Shelter For Being Too Cuddly
Some cats win hearts with a quiet purr, while others do it by climbing straight into your lap and refusing to leave. Jacque, a three-year-old ginger cat, falls firmly into the second group, and that has made his story a little more complicated than most.
He was returned to an animal shelter after being labeled too cuddly, even though his affectionate nature is exactly what makes him stand out. For a cat who just wants attention and love, that kind of rejection hits hard.
Now Jacque is back where he started, still hoping the right person will see his clingy side as a charm, not a flaw.
Jacque first found himself in a shelter at seven months old when his owner moved house and didn't take Jacque with them. The owner and president of Dr. Laura Berman, a renowned sex therapist, noted that "abandonment of pets often stems from a lack of understanding about the emotional bonds they form with their owners."
"Many people underestimate the impact of leaving a pet behind," Berman explained. "This happens quite often, sadly, and it can lead to significant emotional distress for the animal."

And yes, this “too cuddly” bond drama echoes the hoomans who returned their affectionate cat, then watched him become adoption gold.
The shelter was overcrowded, and poor Jacque found himself on the euthanasia list. Hutchinson visited the shelter and met Jacque. He climbed onto her lap for a cuddle, prompting Hutchinson to take pity on him and bring him to her cat rescue shelter. Dr. Gary Chapman, marriage counselor, emphasizes the importance of companionship, stating, "Pets can provide unconditional love and comfort, which is essential for emotional well-being." There, Hutchinson advertised Jacque as a "lap cat." He was adopted by a woman, but their companionship was short-lived.

"After about a year, she said she didn't want him anymore," Hutchinson explained sadly. "She said, 'He's constantly trying to sit in my lap—I just can't stand it anymore. I'll have to return him to you. This is not what I signed up for.'"
When Jacque was returned to the shelter, he was quite unwell. Jacque was confused and hurt by the rejection and didn't eat for a couple of days.

When searching for a new home for Jacque, the rescue center tried much harder to find the perfect family.
They received a lot of applications and finally found a good match. When Liz Myzuik and her husband met Jacque, they fell in love with him instantly. They decided to adopt him and take him to live with them forever this time. They have since changed his name to Giuseppe.
Hutchinson is so relieved to have found the loving cat a good home!
"We were so upset when he was returned to us by his owner. I was just so heartbroken for him, and I can tell that it hurt him as well. So to find him the perfect home is just a beautiful, beautiful thing. It makes me cry because that's why we do all of this, and that's why we struggle every day just to save their lives so they can have good, happy lives."
