Cats And Video Games Come Together Again When Assassin's Creed Valhalla Gives Players The Ability To Bring Cats Along On Raids
Cats and video games have always made a strangely perfect pair, and Assassin's Creed Valhalla leans all the way into that charm. This time, Ubisoft's Viking adventure gives players a chance to bring a cat along on raids, turning a brutal journey through ninth-century England into something a little more adorable.
The game is the 23rd entry in the long-running Assassin's Creed series, following Origins and Odyssey. During Ubisoft's Forward event, the studio showed off raids, stealth, and plenty of combat, but the cat companion quickly became the detail everyone wanted to talk about.
It is a small feature, but it gives the whole game an unexpectedly playful edge. Read on.
Here's the gameplay trailer for Assassin's Creed Valhalla:
It's never a bad idea to have a furry friend tag along with you on your raiding journeys. The game offers you the possibility to recruit a cat that you can take with you everywhere. When you're busy slaughtering random small towns, it'll take a nap in the boat while waiting for you.
Just randomly chilling
History.com says:
"Recent genetic research has shown that these seafaring Nordic explorers brought domesticated cats on board their ships to kill rodents, helping the furry felines spread across the globe."

That little detail is already stealing the spotlight. Meanwhile, the game also features intense action sequences, showcasing brutal decapitations and epic battles, including a dramatic fight with a giant wolf and the return of hidden blade kills.
This cat-on-the-raid vibe feels like tiny sand cats navigating the Sahara.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla also brings back the hidden blade early in the story, and Ubisoft says Eivor is not a trained assassin but a Viking learning fast. Ubisoft also officially revealed Far Cry 6 at the same event, which will star Breaking Bad's Giancarlo Esposito (aka Gus Fring) as the dictator of 'the largest Far Cry playground to date,' Yara.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla will be released in December this year on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC, and Google Stadia.
