Lost Dog Finds His Mom After A Two-Year Separation

Linda thought she had lost Twixx for good, then Facebook pulled off the kind of reunion magic people only see in movies. Two years after the dog vanished, a post about a lost pet somehow circled back to her front door.

Here’s what made it messy, emotional, and honestly gut-wrenching: Linda had found a dog that looked right, even spotting the same scar on its head, but she hesitated to act, convinced she might be saying goodbye for real. She tried to move on after her spouse told her to stop crying for what she could not change, and she stuck to that promise for years. Then the Mobile County Animal Shelter reached out after her church group mentioned a chipped dog, and suddenly the past came charging back.

That’s when Twixx finally did what he needed to do, recognize his mom, even with a door between them.

Following a heartfelt Facebook post about the lost dog, a woman contacted Linda, providing her with images of a dog bearing an identical scar on its head—a perfect match for Twixx. Emotionally charged, Linda relayed, "I regret having to share this with you, but I believe I've found your Twixx," she said. "Here's a photo of the dog I encountered lying by the side of the road."

Although Linda had initially considered removing the microchip, assuming her dog had passed away, she couldn't bring herself to go through with it.

"In my heart, I never truly believed it," she confided. However, her spouse encouraged her to move on, stating, "You have to let go. Your tears are for him." Despite her resolution never to have another dog, Linda stayed true to her vow for the next two years.

Linda’s whole world started to tilt when a woman messaged her with photos of a dog that matched Twixx’s scar, right down to the detail that wouldn’t let her breathe.

Even after Linda considered removing the microchip, she couldn’t bring herself to do it, and her spouse’s “your tears are for him” line made the waiting even harder.

Then, a turning point occurred when the Mobile County Animal Shelter contacted her, inquiring if she had ever had a chipped pet while being out with her church group. Overwhelmed with emotions, Linda broke down in tears, and her compassionate church friends rushed to console her.

Worried that her long-lost furry friend might not recognize her after such a prolonged separation, she approached the shelter with trepidation.

Thankfully, the shelter staff made the reunion process smoother by discreetly keeping the dog hidden behind a door while Linda spoke to him. Apprehensive that he might be uncomfortable or scared in her presence, she was relieved to find that the dog indeed recognized her, and her tears turned to tears of joy.

This reunion after a car crash, where the dog lost in the wilderness finds his owner again, is just as emotional.

When the Mobile County Animal Shelter called because Linda’s church group had spotted a chipped pet, the reunion went from “maybe” to “now,” and the tears hit instantly.

The shelter’s door trick, keeping Twixx hidden while Linda spoke, turned that first moment of recognition into pure, messy joy instead of fear.

Beyond the fences of our homes lies a vast world, both inviting and perilous for our four-legged friends. It is a world that they should not have to navigate alone. When a dog goes missing, the response of the community is vital.

The outpouring of support, the shared efforts in the search, and the compassion extended to distraught families all contribute to the possibility of a reunion.

Twixx got his family back, and Linda finally got to stop wondering if she’d lost him forever.
