Dog Overate More Than He Could Handle on Christmas Gingerbread Decorations and Needed Lifesaving Surgery
Marley, a seven-year-old Labrador, ended up needing lifesaving surgery after helping himself to more than 30 homemade gingerbread decorations.
Owner Rachael Bulmer, from Bournemouth, took him to the PDSA Pet Hospital after he started becoming ill, and vets found the ribbons attached to the biscuits had caused a dangerous blockage. What began as a festive baking project quickly turned into a race to save the dog.
By the time the emergency treatment was over, Marley had already put everyone through a very stressful Christmas scare.
Marley Was Really Hungry (Labradors Are Always Hungry)

“Over the years, Marley has been no stranger to eating things he shouldn't, and usually, they pass through. But this time, he started acting strangely and looked like he was going into shock. He was violently sick and brought up some of the ribbon.”
The surgeries lasted for three hours, and the vets removed 34 decorative ribbons that were causing a potentially lethal obstruction.

PDSA head vet Aoife Clancy stated: "It was a lengthy, high-risk surgery. Marley's chances of surviving the night were looking poor, so he was transferred to the out-of-hours provider, Vets Now, so he could be cared for overnight.
Thankfully, he pulled through but needed critical round-the-clock care for four days before he could go home.”
Marley’s “I can eat this” moment is similar to the puppy who chewed its owner’s toe in sleep.
