Loyal Cat Stays At Owner's Bedside Through Sickness And Grieves After She Passed On
Some cats act like they own the house, but Trooper ended up owning something even bigger, her family’s hearts. Found as a tiny kitten inside a wall during a house flip, she grew up in the Hackney home and formed a bond that became impossible to miss.
That bond was strongest with Alexis Hackney’s 96-year-old grandmother, Sarah, who lived with the family. Trooper stayed close when Sarah became ill, sleeping beside her and bringing small gifts from around the house, and the family saw just how devoted the cat really was.
Then Sarah passed away, and Trooper’s grief was hard to ignore. Read on.
“She was about 2 weeks old. Her eyes were barely open.”

“My grandmother would bottle-feed her, and she’d sit there and talk to her, telling her how cute and sweet she is,” Hackney said.

“She was never the kind to pick up toys and move them around the house or anything, but when my grandma couldn’t move around as much anymore, she would bring stuff to her — whatever she’d find on the floor, like socks or a straw.”

Trooper and Sarah had a bond the family could see every day.
“When my grandmother started getting to the point where she couldn’t communicate anymore, I think that having Trooper there was definitely calming for her.”

“Trooper was always by her side — always there — and she would accidentally hit her or squeeze her too hard, and Trooper would never fight back.”

That loss left a real empty space behind.
And if you think that loyalty ends at the bedside, a dog’s hospital visit to bid farewell to its owner says otherwise.
“You can tell that she definitely misses Grandma.”
