Celebrate Pride Month With 16 Pride-Themed Bats
Happy Pride! During the month of June, the LGBTQIA+ community in the United States celebrates one another through special events like parades, festivals, and much more.
Why June? Because it was in June 1969 when the Stonewall Riots took place, a major event that ignited the civil rights movement for the LGBTQIA+ community.
Along with being a month-long celebration, Pride Month is a time when individuals peacefully protest and raise awareness about the issues the community is facing. Although we have made significant progress since 1969, there are still many injustices and instances of discrimination.
In a time when transgender individuals and children are being targeted by political policies, and gay individuals are being intentionally erased and excluded from our education, awareness is more important than ever. However, we are also living in an unprecedented time where a global pandemic is still raging, making it not always easy to attend a Pride Parade or supportive event.
That’s where the internet comes in handy. Artists can share their artwork and even create entire themed collections with the intention of donating proceeds to their local LGBTQIA+ communities.
At least, that’s what French artist Rhan Hastur has chosen to do. The artist has created a popular Pride-themed collection that still manages to honor her love of gothic themes, especially her self-proclaimed weakness for bats.
Hastur has developed a thorough collection of bats designed as one of sixteen pride flags and has pledged to donate all profits she makes from her Pride collections through the end of June to the NGO Fulcrum UA for relocation, shelter, and emergency aid to LGBTQIA+ people in Ukraine.
