A Pit Bull named Merrill didn’t just get overlooked at a shelter, she got attached. Like, immediately. The second she met Taco, an eight-year-old Chihuahua, it was over for the “separate the pets” plan.

Merrill was three years old, Taco was older, and the two didn’t act like strangers for even a minute. When people tried to separate them, Merrill and Taco cried and whined so loudly the shelter staff had to keep them together in the same enclosure. And then came the real test: a man who was ready to adopt Merrill alone.

He thought he was bringing home his next best friend, but Merrill had other ideas.

Merrill left her owners with no choice but to adopt her BFF. She can't bear to be apart from the little fellow.

The moment these two dogs met, they became inseparable. They end up crying and whining loudly when people try to separate them.

That's why the shelter staff decided to put the two dogs in the same enclosure. They would always lie so close to one another.

Taco was looking for a true friend. Fortunately, he found it in Merrill.

They simply fell in love with each other. One day, a man came to the shelter and decided to adopt Merrill.

But the Pit Bull didn't like the idea of being separated from her BFF.

The man signed all the required paperwork and was ready to take Merrill home.

But when she was taken out of her enclosure, she and Taco immediately began whining loudly. They shared a heartwarming moment, locking eyes with incredibly sad expressions.

Merrill firmly planted all four paws on the ground and refused to move an inch. The Pit Bull was about to be welcomed into her forever home, but she was determined not to let go of her best friend.

When Merrill and Taco started whining the moment they were separated, the shelter staff basically had no choice but to keep them side by side.

Merrill’s bond with Taco echoes Lara’s loyalty after she was left to die, in this pitbull story.

The complication hit fast when the man signed the paperwork to take Merrill home, then watched her refuse to move the second she was out of her enclosure.

Right there, with Taco and Merrill locking eyes like they were begging not to be split up, the adoption plan turned into an emotional standoff.

After witnessing how impossible it was to separate them, Merrill’s new owner decided to take Taco home too, so the BFFs could stay together.

After witnessing the strong love between the two BFFs, Merrill's owner was touched.

At that moment, he realized that he couldn't take only one dog home. He decided that he couldn't separate the two and took Taco home as well.

Finally, Merrill and Taco are together in one forever home, and it's all thanks to the owner who decided to adopt both.

Merrill didn’t just demand a ride home, she demanded a double adoption.

After Merrill and Taco’s adoption standoff, you’ll love the dog who sneaks out to hug his bestie.
