Bulldog Befriends Rescued Fox, Mirroring A Real-Life 'The Fox And The Hound' Friendship

A 28-year-old woman refused to let a tiny fox’s bad luck end in the same place most rescues do. Pauline Ashanola didn’t just find Marley, she brought the little two-week-old survivor into her home and treated her like family from day one.

At the time, Pauline already had a lovable Pit Bull named Ernie, and everyone knew the usual story. Dogs and foxes do not exactly start out as besties. Even Marley was in rough shape, covered in flies and ticks, while Ernie had to get used to sharing his world with the newest, weakest member of the household.

What happened next turned their days of cautious coexisting into something that feels ripped straight from “The Fox and the Hound.”

Before Marley ever settled in, Ernie’s initial hesitation made Pauline’s “this will work” plan feel like a long shot.

Before Marley's arrival, Pauline had a lovable Pit Bull named Ernie. Initially, Ernie was somewhat apprehensive about the new family member. Marley also wasn't very fond of Ernie at first.

However, as time passed, Ernie gradually began to share his sleeping space with Marley. As they spent more time together, their bond deepened, slowly evolving into a wonderful friendship.

Their bond wasn't limited to their shared home. They enjoyed going on walks together, playing throughout the day, and nestled close to each other during sleep every night. Pauline fondly shares that while dogs are often used to hunt foxes, in her household, these two became the best of friends.

The relationship between Ernie and Marley is akin to the characters in the movie "The Fox and the Hound."

She named the little fox Marley. Marley was in a really rough spot, covered in flies and ticks.

That’s when Marley’s condition and Ernie’s surprising gentleness started rewriting the script, day by day, nap by nap.

Despite Ernie's robust exterior, he is actually very gentle. He is nothing short of a big softie who is extremely gentle and affectionate with Marley.

Pauline's commitment to her animal family was so strong that she decided to leave her perfect job as a dog groomer. She chose to dedicate more time to caring for and nurturing the vulnerable ones she adopted.

She firmly believes that this is more than just a job for her; it is a mission that fills her heart with joy as she gets to save these priceless lives!

This is what true friendship looks like, just like dog Bella and elephant Tarra showed everyone.

The walks and all-day play only made it clearer, Ernie wasn’t just tolerating Marley, he was choosing her.

And when Pauline couldn’t find a shelter to take Marley in, she doubled down so hard it changed her whole life, leaving her perfect job as a dog groomer for the vulnerable ones.

That's really something, isn't it? This is exactly how Mother Nature intended things to be—a world where all creatures, humans and animals, live together in perfect harmony. In this ideal world, every living thing, no matter how big or small, is part of a big family.

It's all about understanding, respect, and love for each other. This peaceful coexistence shows us how everything and everyone has a special role in maintaining the balance of life on Earth.

This idea really hits home about how important each life is and how connected we all are. It reminds us that we all have a part to play in looking after every creature on our planet to help maintain this harmony that Mother Nature envisioned.

The real beauty of this concept lies in how we live together, respect one another, and work hand in hand for the benefit of all.

Ernie and Marley might have started as unlikely roommates, but they ended up proving harmony is real when someone refuses to give up.

Talk about a turnaround, see how lonely blind bison cow Helen found Oliver the bull after everyone shunned her.
