Cat Presses Button On Laptop And Wins An Academic Grant
One curious cat managed to turn an ordinary laptop nap into an unexpectedly lucky moment. Mochi, who already had a habit of climbing onto screens and snoozing on open computers, ended up pressing the right thing at exactly the right time.
Her owner, Jessica Schleider, was in the middle of applying for a $100,000 grant when she stepped away to walk her dog. While she was gone, Mochi settled onto the laptop, and the result was more surprising than anyone could have planned.
By the time Jessica came back, the screen told a very different story than she expected, and Mochi had somehow become the hero of the day.
Jessica and her partner adopted Mochi while they were still in graduate school.
Schleider told The Dodo;
"She was enthralled with my laptop from the start."

Jessica is an assistant professor at Stony Brook University.
She conducts research on mental health, most of which requires funding to carry out the necessary studies.

She was applying for a $100,000 grant when she decided to take a break from proofreading to walk her dog.
"I was working from home and decided to go outside and walk our dog, Penny, before 'taking the plunge.'"

While she was out, Mochi decided to take a nap on the open laptop that was lying around.

That nap came with a very unexpected click.
It also reminds me of Moggy, whose heartwarming support earned him Cat of the Year for his deaf owner.
When Jessica returned, she looked at the screen and saw that something unexpected had happened.
"I discovered that she'd pressed 'submit' on the grant application. I had a minor panic attack."

But there was nothing she could do; she just had to wait for the result.
Fortunately, everything worked out well, as Mochi secured the grant for her!
"Her screen obsession finally paid off!"
