Dog Lover Creates A Stick Library For Dogs To Enjoy At The Park
Dogs are pretty easily pleased. Give them a good belly rub, a yummy treat, a new toy, or even just a few minutes of your attention and they will love you forever.
But do you know what doggo's love them most? Well, apparently it's sticks! Yep, they love sticks! No matter how big or small the dog, they are pretty well guaranteed to go crazy over a good stick. Perhaps it's because they are easy to grab onto? Or because they are fun to play fetch with? Who knows? I suppose you'd have to ask a pooch to be sure.
One thing is for certain though, sticks sure do seem to make them happy!
Andrew Taylor is one dog owner who understands this all too well. And observing his dog's excitement over sticks gave him an interesting idea.
The clever man decided to create a ‘stick library’ at the local park so that dogs could borrow a stick to play with. “Our dog Bella had become a stick lover because she ripped to shreds any balls or toys,” said Andrew’s daughter Tayla.
Andrew collected sticks after trimming trees from the side of his house in Kaiapoi, New Zealand. He sanded them back, and then made a special box to put them in.
“He decided to call it the stick library because it implied that you return the stick once you’re finished with it,” Taylor’s daughter explained. Tayla then invited people to come and try out the new library. Around 50 people turned up with their dogs.
The library was a raging success! “As people started to arrive, there was a disbelief of how simple the idea was, but it’s one of those ideas no one had thought of. All the dog owners appreciate it as they all have experienced the ‘good stick search’ which isn’t always fruitful, it’s an idea that just makes sense to them," Tayla said.
