When Good Samaritans spotted the stray dog in Jefferson County, Missouri, they had no idea they were looking at a dog. The sight was alarming: a wrinkled, nearly hairless creature covered in scars and scabs, with skin so hardened it resembled stone.
The pup’s heartbreaking appearance was the result of a severe case of scabies—a highly contagious mite infection that causes intense itching, irritation, and, in his case, immense suffering. Determined to help, the kind-hearted couple arranged for him to be taken to Stray Rescue of St. Louis, where his remarkable transformation would soon begin.
Todd Whiteaker, who helped transport the dog to safety, recalls the moment he met the fragile pup. Despite his tough exterior, his response was immediate: he jumped straight into Whiteaker’s car and curled up beside him, seeking comfort.
